Position:Home>Dancing> Age 18 too late to start hip hop dance?

Question:I've always loved hip hop dance but my parents never let me take it consistently when I was younger because they thought it was a waste of time and money, especially if "it's not something I would make a career out of." I really want to get superb in it because it's something that I don't think I can live without. However, I often find myself discouraged because I see people who are my age and they are teaching classes already! Or they're my age or younger and already have had years of experience. I also feel that I'm the only one who is slow on picking up choreography. ahh
I know this sounds quite unrealistic right now...but I would really love to dance on some of the great so-cal hip hop teams like breed or kaba modern.

never to late Hun.......
k-mod are huge and i know many kids that are mesmerised by their routines!!
age is no problem. i teach street dance and the kids are from 5 to 16.....some of the 16 year old have only started this year, and are all ready showing some cool skills. you need to start by getting your fitness levels up! it really helps if you can move with flexibility rather than being a stiff board.
start to watch some hip hop DVDs and try at home first.

this web site has some cool dance vids and they are basic to start with!!
choreography is for some a hard learner. you really need to learn all the moves first...then the rest will all fall into place!!

any good class should welcome you, whatever your ability...if you feel silly and such...look around i can guarantee that others feel the same...you don't get to master hip hop without falling on your as*re many a time,,LOL

don't worry too much what everyone says...dance has always been in my heart, and always will be. but some people just don't understand the whole buzz you get from it!!

have a good christmas and DO'NT give up the dream x x

It's never to late. If thats in your heart go do it.

do it

its never too late. just try really hard and ull move up quickly.

never give up...
u can always start something new no matter how old u are as long as u really want it and u practice....
i'm 16-17 years old n i teach hip hop...n i also break...but i never underestimated ppl...
and don't worry my parents feel the same way i neva had taken hip hop classes they neva wanted me 2....until ma friend and i started a "crew" lol,
then from there i started teaching and moved up slowly...(i started at the age of 15) and still my parents don't support me with hip hop....but they know i'm good n they respect that...(so don't worry sooner or later they'll understand)
i bet if u put ur mind in to it u'll be even betta than me...juzz don't loose hope...n if u need anything juzz hit me up.....
good luck n i hope i c u soon...on t.v. with breed....or kaba lol ;)

Yup, why not put your time into ballroom where grown women can fawn over your dance ability rather than hanging out with "the boys"?
