Position:Home>Dancing> How can I continue to improve in dance? I feel I have stopped proressing.?

Question:talk to the tutors, Hun! express your worries and feelings. it's part of their job to help you over come stumbling blocks, like you're facing now!
it happens to us all, I've been dancing since i was 5...now 33, and there's many a time i felt like banging my head on a brick wall!!! it often felt like one step forward, three steps back.

is there anything on your mind that could be affecting your dancing, sometimes even little problems can cause enough distraction to put you completely off!!

good luck, Hun.......hope it all works out for you x

OH and merry Christmas x

Challenge yourself. Try going and taking classes at a bigger company. Talk to your teachers and ask for their advice.

Do things that need the most improved over and over again. If you still feel you have stopped progressing ask a dance teacher and tell her what your finding difficult. He/She might give you some techniques.

Everyone plateaus. Take a trip and study something new with a bunch of strangers in a foreign place. Get away from the people you see in your daily routine. Do a completely different style... ever learn Charleston?

As someone said already: This happens to all of us sometimes! I find that trying another discipline is most helpful - you don't say what sort of dance you do but whether it is a partner dance or not I find that these disciplines all have a great value: Core stability excercises help you "keep dancing above your feet" and to move from your centre. Tap dancing also teaches you these lessons and helps you learn some good syncopation. Ballet (whether you enjoy it or not ;) ) will help your posture above all else.

You get physical strength improvement and coordination when you have a growth spurt. Between times it seems like you are stagnant. Just wait. When you have a growth spurt, work that much harder.

Take something new, whether it's dancing or not. Music, rock climbing, ballroom, anything you have a small passion for will help your dancing. Sometime you need a complete change in your workout, it's brings out different things in you. Maybe moving to a bigger town where you'll have harder classes with push you. good luck.

It happens to the best of us. I agree with Zoe. But on top of that take the time to study something new. I've danced salsa and bellydancing since i was 7. However i felt for some reason i was getting worse when i was 19. So i started studying other dances. Tango helped me a lot along w/Jive & break dancing. Doign different dances gets you used to different movements & styles. So with that in mind when i started doign salsa again my instructor had asked me what had i done? Also meditating (as crazy as that sounds) helped me. It clears your mind of the worry and your voice within pushes you to reach that goal. If your mind isnt w/u in the journey you'll have less chances of succeeding. Another funny, i started doign Tae Kwon Do. Because martial arts requires you to be rigid when delivering punches, as a dancer it was difficult. However when evading the punches (not blocks) the flowy motion of dancing helped. It's like my body woke up. I'm not saying that you do martial arts, but if u want u can try. It's just sometimes doing the opposite of what we're used to makes us polish what we're used to doing. Best of luck!
