I'm in eighth grade and I'm on my school dance team. I love it, it's really fun and I learn lots by being a part of the team. Tell the winter color guard that you would like to try it, but are not guaranteeing anything at the moment. If you like it, tell them that. If you don't, say that it's not your thing and don't do it. But I LOVE dancing and I'm sure you will have fun doing it! So go for it! Just be open in the first place so that they know you aren't 100% sure if you want to do it. Go there with a good atitude, and you're bound to have lots of fun!

You should try out because even if you don't make it, you will gain valuable experience and make some new friends. And if you don't, you will always regret that you didn't take a chance.

you should try...don't worry about it to much and you'll be less nervous and maybe you'll do great! u never kno.

and even if its not for you it's a good experiene...and don't worry they might think they are better than you (they shouldn't) but there is bound to be at least one nice girl to help you out if you need it. good luck!

Well, this can be difficult, they don't just dance but they also use props, such as batons, flags and riffles. I would try to go but let them know you probably don't have enough experiance to help the team. If they see potential in you at practice, they might ask you to stay or encourage you to practice more and join them next year. New activities can be hard, but you never know what could've been until you try. Go to the practice and have your brother's gf introduce you to some younger girls and pretend like your just there for fun and a new learning experience. Good luck, I hope I helped ( : Merry Christmas, remember that Jesus is the reason for the season!!!

If it's something you want to do then DO IT! I think you'll be fine and have a great time. Remember in less than a year you will be in the high school anyway. Its a great way to meet upperclassmen. And don't be nervous you'll be fine! Remember some of your brothers friends will be there to help you out.

try it!
you just have to believe in yourself.
you might really enjoy it and you'll meet new people.

I'd say to give it a shot as you don't really have anything to lose besides a bit of time. There's a lot more to color guard than just dancing. Even if you don't make the team, you may be able to use some of the ideas that you learned to bring back to your Jr.High/Middle School color guard (if you have one). You can also use the opportunity to take a dance class to have some dance experience under your belt. Plus, you may make some friends on the high school team that you can practice with on a regular basis. Ultimately, this would show the other teammates and director that you are serious about your work and are willing to put in the effort.

That being said, here's a few things that may be taught at the practice/audition.

1. Basic color guard work and terminology (basic flags and props, basic spins and tosses, etc)
2. Basic marching manuevers
3. See if you can march in time, and be on the right foot
4. A few dance moves that may be incorporated into a rountine
5. Putting all the stuff together for a little "show" with the other team members or auditionees for the director.

All and all, directors are wanting those who will make good "team" members to the squad...those who can work well with others and pull their own load.

Good luck!
