But even so, it really does depend on what muscles you want to make stronger. For legs, I'd suggest running up and down the bleachers at school. Maybe get some light leg weights to wrap around your ankles while you jog. Also, stretch a lot, and keep on doing what you are already doing. Persistance will eventually pay off. Instead of lifting weights since you're a dancer, weights can make your muscles look bulky. If you do add weights, then just add light ones. What I reccomend is doing pilates and yoga. Yoga will increase your flexibility and pilates will help you develop muscles and lengthen them. Pilates is also a form of floor barre in ballet, it helps you strengthen and center you core and legs so you have greater control, flexibility and balance. I was and am like you. I was 5'2 in the 11th grade and weighed less than 100 lbs., and yet I was a good gymnast and ballet dancer. Try to eat more lean meat and fish. Lots of it! You seem to be getting enough exercise, but if you over train, you can lose muscle. Also, you must get sufficient rest. Probably more than most people. The way the muscle gets stronger is 1) you exercise and you push your muscles beyond what they can do. 2) The muscles get minute tears. The muscles responds by healing itself and enlarging (hypertrophy.) 3) The muscles need protein to create building blocks to heal and enlarge. 4)The muscles heal themselves while you are sleeping. The harder you work, the more sleep you need. If you are a vegetarian, you should take a protein supplement. |
