I know that Capezio and Bloch are fairly universal brands that make a split-sole tap shoe. It's easier to dance with a split sole than a stiff shoe, because they bend in the middle. I would suggest getting the flat black leather ones. Most have laces but they are some slip on varieties. Just make sure they fit properly, they should be a bit snug so they don't flop around on your feet, because then your beats will be sloppy. My Bloch's are nice because they have a lot of padding and they're really comfortable.

well if you are doing toe stands get the kind that bend in the middle....they are soo much easier than the stiff ones...i dont rmbr who makes them but i think capezio....

you should get jazz styled tap shoe. real leather, not plstic. the are by BLOCH. oh, yeah, the size for tap shoes will be 1/2 size to a full size bigger than your street shoe size.

get the split sole kind, there are different kind of split sole, and my favorite brand is the bloch kind because they aren't so floppy, but my sister really likes capezio... i would say try a couple brands on but definitely go with split sole.
