Position:Home>Dancing> What's the difference between a (Grande) Jete and a sotasha?

Question:I'm pretty sure I know the difference, but a few girls who are in a dance class with me say I'm wrong. Could you explain the difference and also maybe give me a site that I can show them?

Hi honey. It actually saut de chat "jump of the cat" like pas de chat is "Step of the cat". Anyway, saut de chat is like a grand jete, except the front leg goes through develope before extension. It isn't a stag jump, as I'm sure you know, stags require that the front leg stays bent for the duration of the jump. A grand jete, literally "big throw", goes straight into extension in the front.

the front leg is bent in the sodasha(dont remember how to spell french) and in the grand jete, the legs are doing two batements(batma)

In a grande jete, both legs are straight and in a batma positions. It is basically the ballet name for a jazz leap. A sotasha is when you jump, and one leg is in a batma to the side, and you land in a coupe (toe behind the ankle bone). A sotasha can also turn. I hope I have helped! Good luck!

a grande jete is where you legs are straight the whole time,,, but in a sotasha you develope your front leg.

With a grand jete both legs are straight. With a sotasha you developpe the front leg. I hope that I helped you out a little.

Grand jete is two batemants.(kicks) and at no point during the jump do the legs bend. In sodechat, the front leg developes into extension.

I'm pretty sure you mean a stag.
Well, at least everybody in my dance studio calls it that.
"Stag," is when one leg is bent in front of you and back leg stretched out. Jete is when both legs are stretched out.

Okay, this one's easy. Just keep it in your head.
The Grande Jete is when your front leg is straight and doesn't develop in your leap.
A sotasha is when your leg develops when you leap.
