Position:Home>Dancing> Ballet question? Urgent!!!?

Question:I have been dancing ballet since I was 2 years old and I dance in a professional ballet school. Now I am 15 and I have about five years to graduate. Currently I have 3 times per week (which will be 4 times per week in Jan.) with the least an 1hr and half and the most 3 hours and a half.

My technique and skills are good and I have natural good feel for ballet.

I am working on my splits

Do you think I am on the right path to becoming a pro ballet dancer?

You sound dedicated to ballet, which is the first thing you need to have to be a pro. Sounds like you have a nice base for being professional. Try these tips:
~Taking classes from other teachers and attending as many open classes and master classes at other studios as possible. They always say it's good to have connections; the more people in your field you know the better.
~Also, get comfortable with famous choreographers and their works so that if a teacher makes a reference to something from a particular ballet you will be familiar with it.
~Remember that it can be hard and physically straining to be a pro, so take up another hobby that is relaxing for you, but inexpensive. such as taking walks through a park, reading, writing poems, etc...
~And lastly consider your plans for life. Do you want to be a wife with kids, do you want to attend college, where do you want to live as an adult? Being a pro dancer will affect all of these. Decide if it will fit in with the lifestyle you have in mind for yourself
Most importantly, you never know what could've been until you try. If your doubtful of being pro, but unsure, just try-out for some different companies and see what happens. Overall, have fun, you sound like a lovely dancer and I think you'll make the right decision.

I use to take ballet classes Monday Wednesday and Friday from 5-6am, went to school and then on Monday Wednesday and Thursday danced from 4-10pm. I did not become a professional dancer however, I choose another path. I did teach dance classes for 2 years after I graduated.

You are 15 and you can start your career now, but you have to believe in yourself and take care of yourself. I would recommend buying a book called, Diet for Dancers and LIVING by that book. It will not only help you keep that perfect ballet toned skinny look, but it will include recipes to help your bones and muscles so they do not damage over time.

I would also recommend taking dance classes from more than one instructor. This will help you to understand that not everybody does it your way, and it will help you to scope out your competition and see where you stand.

Lastly, be honest with yourself, If you think you can do it, then do it! but if you think maybe i'm not cut out for this, then take a deep look down inside of youself and figure it out!

Hope this helps!
