Terminology gets really interesting here. In the ballroom world, there are five Latin dances. Jive is from the US; samba from Brazil; paso doble, despite its Spanish theme, is actually French in origin and nomenclature; rumba is based on Cuban dance but is far removed from rumba music (it's danced to bolero music), and is largely an English development of Cuban dances; only cha cha is distinctly Cuban with a direct line of descent.
In American ballroom, mambo is a Cuban-Puerto Rican mix largely developed in New York, and it's termed part of the Rhythm group; calling it Latin is technically incorrect, though I doubt anybody will care.
Tango is a Standard (International) or Smooth (American) dance and not part of the Latin group. Argentine tango, of course, is definitely Latin-American, and again we're splitting hairs with the nomenclature.
Merengue, bachata, etc. are again Latin-American social dances, with the same comment about nomenclature.
Personally, I like the sensuality of rumba and the playfulness of cha cha, but I pretty well like them all.

The tango (I believe it started in Argentina) - it's a really interesting dance to watch. The steps are so intricate!

bachata, its really fun!
