Oh how I miss cheerleading and my little 3rd grade squad I co-coached! I would recommend sticking to cheers using the basic 8-count, and not using the down beat more than 2 or 3 times per cheer. Stick to T's, broken T's, candlesticks, touchdowns, high V's, low V's, diagonals left and right, left and right K's, claps, and stunts no more than waist-high unless you have had professional training in coaching or training in stunting. Footwork I'd limit to lunges, side steps/step outs, ponies, and one-footers like liberties.

The basic arm and footwork looks the best, and actually looks pretty difficult from the audience perspective when it's done sharp and in unison. Jumps, when properly executed look great too! Hurkey's, pike's, Double-9's, and table tops were what my girls (and boy) did best.

We actually got an extension and cradle dismount mastered by the end of our 12 week season! Because we were competition, all of our girls were able to do basic tumbling, and about half had sufficient back handsprings. Our boy had a great standing back tuck!

I'm not sure what the skill level of your kids are, but I'm sure you'll all look great! We always did 15 minute random skill/jump calls on a 2 beat rested 8 count.

(High V! + 2 + 3 + Candlesticks! + 5 + 6 + Touchdown! + 8 +...)

My squad's favorite cheers were:

Hey! Hey! Hey you!
The Wolves are coming through!
Cheer for Red!
Red!
Red!
Cheer for Blue!
Blue!
Blue!
Wolves: Red and Blue!
They're coming to get you!

Wolves fans in the stands yell Red!
Red!
Yell Blue!
Blue!
<I can't hear you!>
Wolves fans in the stands yell Red!
RED!
Yell Blue!
BLUE!
Gonna win tonight...
Fight, Wolves, fight!
<They'd then freestyle jump and howl, lol>

We are the Wolves

Short and simple!!! Good luck!!!

Let them make up their own random dances/cheers. They will think they are a star, become more confident, and their parents will love you for that.

Buy a Bella Dancerella DVD set. Mys sister got one for christmas and they are so much fun to dance to. It comes with music and step by step instructions. If you can't find it in stores, try going on eBay. Good luck!

try teaching them line dances like the cotton eye joe, eletric slide, ect.
