Dancing is both a sport and a hobby.
If you call it a hobby, its something you do in your free leisure time that you do for mainly enjoyment, with health and social benefits.
If you call it a sport, you train hard and often, compete, use feedback from others to help improve, take dance seriously, dance to a high standard, aim to succeed and work hard, as well as the enjoyment, and the health/social benefits.

a joke when i do it?

it's a competitive art.

Hobby - sports get reported at the back of newspapers; hobbies at the front. Think dancing - front; darts - back.

Dancing is an art . . . no matter what form.

An art form

Neither - it's an art form.

both i think, if you are good enough for battles then you are a professional and could call it your career

A sport can also be a hobby. The opposite of hobby would be profession, and dance can be both a hobby and a profession. It's definitely athletic, but I wouldn't call it a sport unless there's some kind of competition involved. Oh and yeah it's an art form. But hey, if you're competing, it's sport.

I'll have to agree.. A hobby, but what a great hobby it is and a hell of a wowrk out.... Keep it up!

It's a (competitive) art form. Though whether or not it's a sport is debatable. I say it is, because though you're not scoring points, you're keeping your body in shape through movement, and really working your muscles.

dance is an art, but when people ask what my favorite sport is, i always say dance!!

dancing is an art form that is thought of as a hobby but it is soon to be recognised as a sport. hope that answers your question x

its kinda both. If ur getting exercise and moving, its a sport. So id def. say it was a sport. But to some ppl who seriously wants to be a prof. dancer, its a lifestyle not just a hobby. to those taking it for fun and exercise, its a fun great hobby

It is more athletic than all sports dancers get more out of it believe it or not i think its a sport anybody who trys a advanced class would feel the same

It is most definitely a sport, but also an art. I am a dancer, and with all the bruises/sore muscles I get when i come home from class, it can't be anything else. And it does get competitive, try going to a dance competition, I've been to too many to count.

Dancing should be a performing art. Making it a competitive sport is repulsive.

A SPORTT :))

Certainly not a sport, more of a social activity with pretensions to being an art form.

Its both .. If you take it seriously (like me) then it's a sport .. If you do it for fun it's a hobby x
