Question:Years ago he was my ballet instructor at a professional school and we've recently been reconnected online. We're planning to meet for coffee in the next few weeks... and I don't want to arrive empty-handed.

Something to help him remember you. Think of a time you shared together or something you laughed about and get something from you heart. If you liked him that much as an instructor why not write him a really good, thank you and have it framed. If you doesn't like it at least he will have a frame.
