Position:Home>Dancing> Got my splits and hips hurting?

Question:ok, i got my right splits about a week and a half ago, and the day after my right hip hurt, or maybe it was a muscle underneath. now it doesnt hurt anymore, but when i go down into a split and come back up, that same muscle hurts. saturday, in my ballet class, i did my left split, and i have the same problem. my hip should stop hurting in a few days right? is there any special stretch i should do so this muscle ( or joint idk) wont hurt? or some kind of creme or muscle rub? i did all of the usual stretches, hamstring, quad, heel stretch, and i did the splits b4 we did center, so i had been @ the barre for at least 30 min. already.

Since you were well warmed up when you did the splits, it may be that you have torn a muscle or pulled a tendon. A groin injury can take up to a half year to heal. Until that time, keep dancing but stop extension when your hip hurts. That kind of pain is a message. It says. "Let me heal!"

I got the same thing in karate, when I first did the splits, when a muscle is first torn what basically stretching it that far does the pain doesn't show straight away, give it time damaged muscles can take longer to repair than damaged bones.

You probably pulled a muscle. It should get better in a few weeks. OR your hips may not be flexible enough yet and doing your splits you might be straining them.
