Question:I just got the lead roll in a ballet for our small school and i weigh 160 lbs about, and i'm 5' 6'', which is about 30 lbs over for what ballerinas should look like, but i only want to lose about 20. I have until May, do any dancers have a suggestions as to good diet plans that will give me energy but also help me to lose this weight?

Now, here is the real truth! If you want to dance ballet, and you want to dance on pointe, the fact is that you are too heavy. You cannot ask that much of your body. You are too heavy, period.
First, you must STOP eating fast food. You must eat lean meats, fruits and vegetables without sauce. If you dislike this, you must convince yourself that those foods taste good and that food that is bad for you tastes bad.
You must eat! Do not try bulemia or anorexia!
Getting more exercise is good, and taking long walks is great, if you are serious about dance, because it is a natural movement, and does not buid muscles that would be detrimental to your dance training.
Take more classes.
These are the hard facts from an ex ballerina. At your level your costume will have a stretch panel in the back and should not be a consideration.
The body you have as a teenager will be your "set point" for life. You should learn to eat healthy, small portions of food now, or you will be fighting your weight all your life.

you should see a dietitian and see what they have to say about it.
good luck
and
congrats on making the lead!
(:

Congrats! Remember that you shouldn't try to lose weight unless recommended by a doctor or dietician. Work with a nutritionist to ensure that you are eating healthy. Perhaps keep a food diary to help you understand when you are eating in excess or the wrong foods. Also, don't just dance but get out and do some cardio exercise or weight lifting. You want to be well-rounded, no pun intended (: Always work with your doctor, nutritionist/dietician, and parents to stay healthy while losing weight. Good luck, I'm sure you'll look fine no matter what! Please help answer my questions about lyrical dances!! <3

Don't worry over it. No one is gonna care. I am about 5'6 and weight 155lbs. Guess what? I don't care about my weight. Keep in mind that "normal" dancers don't exsit. Plus, there are girls out there who weight more than you and they don't care. There are two girls at my studio who are way bigger than me and they don't care. Dancing is on talent, not how your body looks!!!!!!

I got the lead in my small ballet school too! ;) First off you haven't ordered the costume yet right because you can't lose weight after you get your costume! Let me talk about the good stuff to me that is pretty healthy! I LOVE fruit so I decided to try a bunch of things that would make fruit even better and sometimes more filling! Apples and peanut butter are delicious and very filling! A banana tastes good with peanut butter too along with celery(a veggie! sorry)! Strawberries are delicious with lots of extras! Or yea, I forgot about apples and cinammon as a desesrt! YUM!!!!

I get healthy type hamburgers and personally I think they are better than the ones you buy in fastfood! I'm not sure about the calories on these or anything but I love the frozen pretzels when I add I can't believe its not butter and a dash of salt! So thats it for now! I hope you do well! :)
