hi, well i personally have done ballet for ten years (Im 19 years old now) and just recently got into pointe and there was never a grading system, i dont think there is. If you're an adult you might want to take a class to see what level you feel comfortable in. When you start you will be mostly at barre doing tendu's and rond de jambe's and a few others to strenghthen you while at center. I think you should just go to a local studio and speak to one of the instructors and see how they can help you.
One thing to remember is that all that matters is that if you love ballet and want to get the best out of it, you just have to give it your best and push your limits!
I hope I helped a bit! Good luck!

i hope this is in the uk..

grades:
pre-primary
primary
grade 1-8

at the age of 11 you can choose to take vocational grades which are:
intermediate foundation
intermediate
advanced 1
advanced 2

pointe work is done in vocational grades at RAD but at other dance schools (not all do vocational) they do pointe at grade 5/6

I don't know how old you are but if you are just starting your teacher will probably show you some of the beginner steps to try and help you keep up with the rest and after a bit you will be just as good :D

There are 9 arm positions and 6 feet positions. I think you should find somewhere to find pictures of these try typing (eg)
ballet first position feet into google images and then all the others. When doing each position you must "turn out" not only from your feet but using your hips, you will understand this better when you see the positions

some beginner steps:
PLIES (plee-yays)-done in all positions, they are just "knee bends" but normally you do demi-plies to start with which means you have to keep the whole of your foot on the floor. These are done at the barre (a bar along the wall) this exercise is done with one hand on the barre.

PORT de BRAS (paw de bra)- this is using the arm positions combined with rises and such and making a little (kind of) "dance".

I think thats most of the basics you need to know, I can't help you more because I'm not sure what level you should be and how old you are etc.
but I hope this helps! :D
