Stereotypes of any type are promoted by people
with a big smattering of Ignorance !

Those who make them should be told in no
uncertain terms to give some proof of what
they are saying !

I am a male Aficianado of the Ballet ---in New York,
London ,Rome , Los Angeles ---
Andre Eglevsky was my friend ---and a more
Macho man I have never known ---Barishnikoff
is another Male Dancer I have admired ---but
never met

In case you are wondering I admired and loved
and dated 3 Female Ballet Dancers ---and many
Showgirls !
I wish there were more gay Ballet Dancers---it
leaves the field wide open for me !

I don't really know why there is a stereotype for male ballet dancers to be gay. Perhaps it may be the fact that guys always put up this vaneer of I'm tough, sports are awesome, I'm so manly and buff. ??? And then when a guy actually does something he likes to do or expresses themself in some way, people get all freaky about it and automatically assume they're gay. It could also be that guys are the minority in ballet dancing so it's assumed that there must be something different going on besides the fact he likes to dance.

little by little the stereotype of a male ballet dancer is beginning to change, especially since young boys are not being ridiculed as being gays when they dance ballet, ballet is actually really very athletic, sometimes even more...

The assumption is that a woman should look graceful and and light. The same way, men are expected to look masculine and heavy. This is where the stereotype comes from. I think it's the light look vs heavy look.
Incidentally, I noticed that gay men pay more attention to how they look, just like women do. They like to look fitter.
It is unfortunate that an average straight man is expected to have bad posture and a spare tire.

Both men and women dance, its part of the joy of life.

Those assume that all male dancers are gay makes two fundamental errors. First they believe in denial of the facts. Second, they are likely to hold this, and other opinions as they form a simple view of life.

Are male ballet dancers gay? Yes, some are. But so are some teachers, soldiers and football players. Even some politicians and policeman are gay.

There is no simple connection between gender preference and the careers and interests we have.

Dance on guys!
