Hi, well my dad was a cossack dancer and i have been dancing with him since i was 3 years old.
By 'Cossack' dance, i guess you mean the male dancer's part where they crouch down and kick their heels out?
In the Ukrainian language this is called 'Prisyka' (forgive the translation from the Russian alphabet to English).
You crouch down with your heels together and arms folded across your chest and bounce on both feet like you are springing forth and kick one leg out while the other straightens up. Keep your back straight . Alternate your legs and speed to suit the tempo of the music. It's all about good balance too.
This is hard to explain on here. Try and watch some videos.
Maybe there will be some on Youtube.com.
It's quite a strenuous dance step. I suggest doing some warm~up exercises first or your leg and stomach muscles will ache like hell !

Good luck x

I prefer not to, thank you.

Probably with a glass of cossack vodka in one hand and cossack gin in the other. You can get it at any Massachusetts liquore store, they're the cheap-o brands in the plastic bottles.

I don't know. Are you from Ballymoney? 'Cos I am!

do a search for the dance on youtube and watch how they do it and you can learn from there

Try this

Crouch down, Fold your arms on your chest, Now kick out your legs....Repeatedly....Shout some Russian for Authenticity.. Or just Hey, Hey, Da Da...will do.

If you fall on your ***...Start over and keep trying..

practise makes perfect..and a half bottle of Vodka..

Neat dance! You have to be pretty fit. I'd get ahold of an International Folk Dance group in your area, and there will be someone who'd be happy to take you through the routine, for a price I'm thinking! I'm assuming you're a fella, and if you're taking a date there are some wonderful couples dances (Russian) which you could perform as well before you went into the big finale solo in front of her. Which is what The Cossack Dance is all about ultimately: vigor and passion. Russian couples dances are sexy and subtle, as are most couples dances anywhere you find them! You'd earn some great partner karma points here too.

Best of luck.
