Position:Home>Dancing> Pointe Exercises?

Question:Starting tomorrow, I will be taking 8 ballet classes a week instead of 4.

2 of those 8 classes are going to Pre-Pointe.

I'm 13 and was wondering of any exercises to prepare for pointe that i could do at home.

How long should it take for me to go on pointe? Just curious.

One of my friends is the same age has been in it for about 6 months and is getting pointe shoes before Christmas.

I am thinking about getting one of those exercise bands.

yes that will help if you get a pilates band. then you can work on ankle strength

and to do that you just put the band on the ball of your foot and pull back to make the band tight, and roll through to a full pointe and this will help you build up ankle strength and stability.

do plie releve, and coupe releves, calf raises just lift your heel slightly off the ground and then down again. in a fast motion this will help strengthen your calf.

also, if you do these excersizes and work on balance (and flexbility as a bonus) you will be able to do normal pointe maybe in the same time, more or less, as your friend.

good luck and congrats!

Getting on of those excercise bands (actually called therabands) would be very smart. I am getting my first pair of pointe shoes on sunday (12/2) and i have been in pre-pointe for 3 1/2 months. I guess it just depends on how strong your ankles are and how your turnout is. some exercises you could do at home is to stand in first position and go half up to your relevé and then all the way up to full relevé. do that about 10 times then do it in parallel first position. This will help strengthen your ankles. I hope that i helped!
