Position:Home>Dancing> PLEASE ANSWER.....10 pts to best!?

Question:Ok, here's the thing, I have been doing jazz dance for 3 years now and im 13. In February, I am trying out for a performing arts high school in my area. It is NOT super competetive, they let some people who have been dancing for years, and some with no experience. In the school, you do ballet and modern daily. My teacher goes there and she is the one who said I should tryout.
Here's My Question:
I have NEVER done ballet before, and the audition is ALL ballet! I know jazz and ballet are similar but not the same! I do know all the positions and arms though. And one day like no one came to my class(don't know why), so my teacher went over some ballet barre exercises with me. I really want to do ballet, and my studio's second term starts in January. Do you guys think if i signed up for the second term in ballet, then by February(my audition date) I would/might be ready? I really, deeply want to get in, and after a few years of ballet and modern daily, try to get onto pointe.
Thank you!

I went to a performing arts school for dance also! When I tried out I had no ballet experience except when I was little (2). It never hurts to take some classes. I think that it will help you tremendously and that you will be ready. If you can show the people who are judging you at audition that you want to be there and try your hardest you will make it! They always look for people who have something to gain not people who are perfect... after all it is still school! Good luck

you put your hands in front of yo right and then to left then drop

i think you'll be ok. ballet is similar to jazz as long as you get your basics down. it also depends on how fast of a learner you are. athe terminology is the tricky part, but not to hard. good luck!

I did jazz for three years also and i know ballet and jazz are not similar at all. You use different muscles and different body parts in different ways. I am not saying it is impossible but as long as you know it is going to take a lot of work, you can probably do it. Good luck and I hope that you get in

go for it learn as much as you can. And go for it. Even if they turn you down. Try again next year. And take that year to learn more. good luck

Why do doubt yourself of course you can do this with a little practice you will be great. Go ahead and sign up and practice your heart out. You can do this ,Go get them TIGER

Definitely jump into ballet classes as soon as you can in order to prepare you for the audition. If you have to wait until January, then so be it. But if you could at the very least observe some more classes right now, even better. While jazz and ballet are similar, you encounter a lot more French terminology in ballet class, so the more you learn, the better. I would even encourage you to try to arrange some private lessons right now if you can.

Good luck with your audition.

I'd say trust your teacher's instincts. She's been watching you, and she knows what you can do. She says go for it -- so go for it! If you're a good dancer, the people watching your audition will be able to see that, even if most of your experience has been non-ballet. Work hard between now and your audition date. Sharpen your skills as much as you can. Then take a deep breath and do your best. My guess is that your best is pretty freakin' good.

Sign up for the class in January but in the mean time why don't you see if you could get someone to tutor you before hand?

I would say definitely go with taking the ballet classes that you can before the audition. You may not know everything, but you'll probably feel more prepared than you would be without taking any classes. Jazz is very structured like ballet, but is different in many ways. If you have good technique and can pick things up quickly you'll most likely get in without tons of training.
Good luck!

well ballet is very difficult for some people i started ballet when i was 2 and now im 13 and im in juliards dance co. of NY and im on the top 20 best adolesent dancers of america. it was NOt easy to come this far. you can just like go in a class and be like "ok i know everything now!" it takes years and hard work to get everything perfect. perfect feet position, perfect arms, perfect back, perfect everything. and jazz and ballet arent that similar.

so hurry!hurry! hurry! start doing it whil u still can! haha
