Gloves are mostly worn for formal occasions, so a semi-formal dance may not qualify. The range of the meaning of semi-formal seems to be pretty large these days, so if the dance will be on the more formal side, then go for it if you want to wear them.

A few tips on glove etiquette may help as well :)

Keep your gloves on when shaking hands (such as in a reception line) as well as while dancing

You may wear them while drinking, but be careful of spills. If you have a button at the wrist and a small opening (mousquetaire) then you can tuck the hands under to prevent this problem. This should also be done when eating or else you should remove the gloves (subtly of course). Do not eat with your gloves on.

Hope this helps! :)

No. Opera length gloves used to be for formal affairs; now
they're largely fetish wear.
