The boy in my class wears just a white t-shirt and jazz pants for class. But he does have to wear tights and a leotard for the exams we do.(but its only twice a year).

Plenty of male ballet dancers wear light weight pants that allow freedom of movement and t shirts or tank tops. Clothes that are form fitting don't get in your way. Leotards and tights perhaps for recitals if requested by the company.

Well i take ballet now and there's one guy in my class....he wears just a white tee and sum type of pants and black ballet shoes but it really depends where your taking ballet and there dress code

I have been a professional ballet dancer in NYC and Calif. for 15 years. Usually you would wear tights over a dance belt and a t shirt or a tight fitting light sweater. The tights are held up with elastic suspenders attached on waist of tights or a belt which you roll the waistband around. You can wear black tights with is the most common with black ballet shoes. My advice is to decide where you want to train and find out their dress code then go to a good dance supply store as there are many styles of shoes you can get. There have been many dancers who started around 19 and became famous. Good luck

Follow what B'way dancer says. But you don't have to wear tights. If its a more relaxed class you could even wear black shorts.

As for shoes either black/white and usually canvas ballet shoes:

Hope this helps, good luck :)

I hope this doesn't steer you away, but you will most likely be required to wear a dance belt.

In college program, my professors make it a requirement. They can tell when you're not wearing one too, so they always call out one guy in class for not wearing one.

But if they don't require one, you'll probably just be wearing tight fitting pants and a tight fitting shirt. A lot of guys in my department wear underarmor, and some wear tights with shorter shorts over.

You should definitely give it a shot. Guy's start later in life and become amazing dancers. It's not fair! :) And they're definitely needed in the dance world.

usually a white t-shirt and black dance pants or bike shorts, fitted enough so the teacher can see how your body moves. leather slippers are fine, but most men wear white or black canvas. Also, DEFINATELY invest in a dance belt, to protect the little fellas.
