Position:Home>Dancing> Help Learning To Do The Splits?

Question:Well i'm trying to learn to do the splits.. I'm naturally quite flexible and can already get most of the way down, I just can't straighten my back leg..
Anyways, i was wondering what streches should i do to help? I've looked up on the internet but it's too confusing! Can someone explain the necessary streches in simple terms so i can understand please? Lolz thanks! x

For learning splits Stretching is EVERYTHING.

I Can do all the types of splits (Box, Right leg and Left leg) and from experience I've found the only way to really improve is to stretch twice a day.

For right and left leg splits I suggest you try Knee lundges. Start on your knees. Take a large step forward with one leg. Press your hips towards the floor. Your front foot should remain just in front of your front knee and your back knee should be almost flat on the floor. Once youve done that From a knee lunge bend your rear leg and grab it with the opposite hand. Pull your heel up into your butt. Then From a knee lunge straighten your front leg and stretch forward over it. When you think you have that done well try doing the actualy splits. Dont get yourself down if you cant do it the first time, It will take a couple of weeks to get to the floor. This is the way they train us for Right and left leg splits In our gym.

Box has always seemed to be a bit more tricky (Well thats just me really) So Some good stretches are: Stand feet astride and legs straight (Straddlr sit); slide both feet in opposite directions slowly and gently downwards. Try to keep your back straight. Place your hands in front of you on the floor to aid your balance. When you reach your full stretch hold between five to ten seconds then return to the start position.

If you dont understand any of this feel free to e-mail me and I Can help you some more =)

Nat

wish you luck....but dont do it over a camp fire

i learnt by trying to go as low as poss everyday and gradually pushing a little further each day but don't do it so u hurt urself.

thats how i got taught anyway!

keep at it! and make sure your just do regualer calf and thigh stretches before and after as you would before going for a run or starting a dancing lesson.

Hope this helps!

Really get yourself fit, approach the exercise with care , don't over do it

Definately dont do the butterfly thing where you press your legs to the floor!! My cousin did that and she couln't pee for a week!!Take hot bubble baths so your mucsles are more flexible. strech your legs all the way out and reach for one foot then the other then in the middle and try to makr your nose touch the floor. Eventually it will get closer to the floor each time you do it. Stay in the position for about 2 minutes esch time. strech your muscles when you wake up and before you go to bed. Continue this for a few weeks and you should be able to do a split in no time.

Everyday do leg stretches for 10 minutes and then try doing splits for 3 min and then if you do that everyday you will be able to do it. It will work i did and i can do a split
