It's popular because it's a dance that's completely simple.
When something comes out that everyone can do, they feel important for being able to do an action that's well known.
I don't know anyone that actually likes the song...

I live in America, but since I don't listen to much modern music, I didn't really get the whole thing. Once I found out that pretty much everybody knew the dance and song, and I saw 3000 people doing the dance at a Pep rally, I decided that I should at least check it out.
Theres a video that teaches you the dance and my sister and I had a great time just joking around and learning the dance, but then the next time the song came on, I couldn't help but do the dance, laughing at myself.
I think it's like the Macarena, Love Shack and all those other dances. Theres something awesome about doing the same moves as everybody else at the same time. Especially, if you're like me and can't dance.
Now, Crank Dat is in my music library and looks strange among all the Queen, Beatles, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin.

Yeah im from NZ, its occasionally on tv but its NEVER on the radio. I guess people dont like the song itself just the dance moves. No point putting in on the radio if no one actually likes the song. I guess its only on tv so people can watch the dacning

Well i live in ATL, Ga in america, where soulja boi lives, or is from, watevs, but i luv him! Even though his songs r vulgar, everybody like them and the dances rn't complicated, or his songs either, but he's HOT and they play him alot on tv, and on the radio, so much im getting sick of them, but my friend told me it took longer for american things to catch on in different countries, and when we start getting sick of them, they are just starting to like them, but man i think soulja bois cool!
