Position:Home>Dancing> Too old for pointe?

Question:I have read a couple of other Askers here on Yahoo with this same concern but they are 16-22. I will be 28 next month and am a mom of three. I was briefly on pointe in high school and haven't really danced intensively since but I miss it horribly.

I would love to purse my life dream of dancing in a Nutcracker (would be nice before 30!) but I feel a little silly signing up for a ballet class full of 8th graders! Especially since I feel so out of shape and Mommish.

How should I prepare, and if someone can specifically recommend a place in Houston that's even better! And ultimately, *am* I too old for this?

I'm not from the Houston area, but it has been ym experience that a lot of studios offer adult ballet, and are willing to work with those who are interested in learning pointe. As an adult, you do have the advantage of already having fully developed metatarsals that can handle the stress of pointe. I would suggest contacting soem local studios and discussing your goals with the teachers.
As far as preperation, stretch every chance you get. ACtivities like yoga and pilates will help build up the core muscles you'll need. Also, I HIGHLY reccomend the NYC Ballet workout, both DVDs, for a really goods reintroduction to stretches and floor barre.
Good luck!

Well, you would have to dance a lot, before being ready en pointe. But you are definetly not too old! And expesially not for ballet!
You could do stretches to be flexible, and you could do some releves a day....! That will improve you ancles and help you quicker en pointe!

try adult beginners, your not the only one i heard of at that age, there is this 44 year old beginner in my class so its okay!
good luck.
