Question:Is there an age limit when it comes to starting ballet lessons? I'm turning 23 and just want to use it for exercise but don't want to get stuck in classes with 12 year olds who are way more advanced than me. When trying to find a proper dance instructor should I ask for anything specific? Or should I start with something online?

I was looking at some adult ballet schools a few days ago. Yes, adult ballet schools, not just classes. This is so adult beginners, and dancers in general, can have a more relaxed atmosphere when beginning et cetera. I'm glad you're starting ballet, it's a wonderful style of dance.

No, there is no age limit when it comes to starting ballet lessons. I too, was a late ballet starter and, though I'm in a class with slightly younger people, I find enjoyment in dancing.

I would NOT recommend looking for online videos. Instead, a local dance studio usually offers an adult class, and you can always go there just to have a look at the standard and even give it a go to see if you'll enjoy it.

Online videos can give advice, but is not a good way of getting around to a ballet class. Ballet is a very technical style and incorrect placement, alignment or technique may result in knee problems et cetera. It is always best if there is a teacher supervising and instructing, and who can correct your placement if it is incorrect or due to present future problems.

Anyway, best of luck with your ballet lessons! I hope you enjoy and find a good class!

its nvr 2 late 2 try it...but umm, u could try online
cuz dats how i learned how 2 play da guitar, or get an instructer for home 2...any of those will work, but if i were u, i would say online

if i were you, i would see if your local community college or university offered begining dance. i live in dayton, ohio and our community college, Sinclair, offers such courses that go on to advanced.

there may also be local dance schools in your area that have adult classes.

many people want to learn to dance, myself included, that never got to or wanted to dance when they were young. i'm taking up belly dancing! lol

good luck, lady!

not too late.....but it hard to u to learn

Not alot of places, but some offer adult ballet. Try looking it up.

And you wouldn't be with 12 year olds, you would be with 3-6 year olds if you were to just start. Most 12 year old ballet dancers are on pointe by that age.

You are never to old to start dancing. I waited till i was 18 to start ballet and i loved it. Just find a studio that has adult private classes and then you will be by yourself or find a friend and go together and it would be cheaper. I had private classes and it was great you get one on one help with things and you get better, a lot quicker because of that. I started with ballet and within a year i was doing pointe. Good Luck!

um...well as long as u dont want to go pro then it should b fine, in some places there are adult dance classes...just ask the instructers in ur area if you could get into 1 of those classes but, make sure u tell them that u r just starting so you dont get stuck in a class with really advanced adults lol
