Position:Home>Dancing> How can I dance two totally different types of dance but still be good at both?.

Question:I want to be a dancer. I'm really good at hip-hop but when I see others doing ballet I really want to be able to do that. I went to dance lessons once and I had a two instructors, one was good at hip-hop and one was good at ballet. The instructor who was good at ballet had NO rythym, the instructor who was good at hip-hop was not flexible and she couldn't do ballet at all! I want to be able to be good at both types of dance. I want to be able to do hip-hop and still have my rythym and do ballet and be flexible, any suggestions?

he had no rythym? if she was a teacher thats not good lol.

ballet dancers have just as much rythym as hip hop dancers. but we flow rather than "pop" into moves. haha like doing leaps and steps its a "different" kind of rythym then hip hop but still the same. just a different way of doing it.

if you do both, each will help you be better at both of them. ballet and hip hop both require strength but ballet requires flexibility, endurancem and strength (hiphop probably does as well but holding an arabesque or doing the splits in the air lol ive never done hiphop so idk) and so you can add those into your hip hop dancing and it will be awesome.

then add the hip hop strength, endurance, and whatever qualities it has and add into ballet (keeping proper technique haha) and you will be better at that as well.

good luck!

if u do ballet u should be able to do any kind of dancing

At the beginning stages, treat them as two completely separate things. Like math and reading. You go to completely separate classes and you learn completely different stuff. Later, you will see the connections.
What, your ballet teacher had no rhythm? That's odd. Ballet dancers have to have a very good sence of music in order to dance well. I once had a ballroom instructor with poor sence of rhythm. It was impossible to learn from her. Don't worry, you will never lose your rhythm. Once you have it - it's forever.

i take 10 dance classes a week one hip- hop one jazz 3 ballet two pointe one irish and one lyrical jazz and one stretch class, i am very good at all of these dance classes, just because you take ballét certaintly does NOT mean you wont have rythm, your dance teacher probobly was not very good if she did ballet and had know rythm, si don't worry about that if you want to take ballet you should deffinatly go for it!
