Position:Home>Dancing> Should i switch dance studios?

Question:the dance studio i currently attend is really unprofessional. and i just dont like it anymore. the teacher puts me down about my weight and style. shes putting 10-12 year olds on pointe and im 16 and still not on pointe!the teacher also patronizes me, which bothers me the most. and the studio is just highly unorganized and all about fun. i really would like a setting where i can learn and be strictly taught dance. this studio isnt helping me become better. am i being too sensitive? or am i right? there are other studios who offer more variety and professional technique in my area.

so should i switch? please help=]

u should switch, but its a bad idea to throw yourself from an unprofessional school to like a prima ballerina kind of place. Go somewhere where the teacher doesn't put you down, but you should still be having some fun while you are dancing. if not then what is the point? also you may not be ready to go on pointe if this teacher hasn't been doing a good job, because your body won't be ready. talk to your new teacher and see what s/he says.
Good Luck!

I say switch! It's deffinatly not helping you at all.

Switch! Its not worth the waste of time if you aren't learning anything and the teacher is just bringing you down.

I think you should switch studios. I answered a question similar to yours earlier about a mother feeling this way about her daughter's dance classes. So I'll give you a similar answer to the one I gave her.
I totally think that you should take lessons at a professional studio with professional teachers. The point of taking dance lessons is to learn how to dance and improve over time. If you are not learning and improving in lessons, you really have no reason to be there. Good luck with the situation!

I was in your situation before. I was enrolled in a little dance studio that was nice but i was looking for something more professional. I switched dance studios, best thing i could have done for myself. Now i'm in a professional environment where i get the training i want, and i feel like i actually have a chance of becoming a professional dancer now. So i hope that helps =]

You should defiantly change studios. That teacher is just putting you down and its not right! About the pointe thing though, it may be your ankles. If you have weak ankles then pointe will be impossible for you. Or if you had a serious injury. There is a girl at my studio who is 16/17 and had tyo stop pointe after 2 years because of an injury.
