Male tap dancers?

Question:I would love for my 5 year old son to do tap dancing.....What do others think of this? Am i weird? Most of the famous tap dancers are male after all

I know quite a few young boys and their favourite style of dance is tap. And I actually think that they look a lot better doing it compared to female dancers.

You defiantly aren't weird at all considering this. The trick is though, is to get him to happily go to the classes. I wouldn't push it with him, watch Singing In the Rain or any tap dancing movie and ask him if he would like to learn that style of dancing.

To the first person that answered-you have a brilliant social connection with everyone in the dance school so you do not feel left out at all.

If he likes Tap, put him in some Ballet or Jazz classes as well and see how it goes :)

it is true that most famous tap dancers are males but it is also true that all kids who do tap dance get beat up by the other kids in school. so unless you want your son to be called a sissy by all of his friends through his school years, don't put him through this.

I am not saying that teaching him tap dancing will actually make him a sissy but that is what is he gonna get from his friends which may scar him psychologically for life

I have A five year old brother and he loves tap dancing! Your not weird for wanting your son to do tap its totally cool! I am a competittive dancer and when we go to work shops with famous dancers most of the tap teachers are guys( actually I think all my tap work shop teachers have been guys and ive been to alot of work shops!) You never know it may be his true calling!
