Position:Home>Dancing> 40 year old woman wants to rap and hip-hop?

Question:I am fit, healthy no joint problems. Has anyone in their 40's done this. I have to add I am no dancer - a fitness instructor - so would be starting from scratch. My teenage kids think I am an embarrassment. What do others think?

Teen-age kids ALWAYS think their parents are an embarrassment! If that is what you want to do, than do it... and don't let ANYONE'S opinion sway you from your goals. To do so would have kept Einstein from developing the theory of relativity when HE was just a home-schooled patent clerk.

Anyone who tells you that hip-hop and rap are for the younger crowd doesn't know much about rap and hip-hop...

How old do you think Tupac would be now? He was born in June of 1971, so he would be 36 now (same as Snoop Dogg)! I bet your kids like Snoop and ‘Pac! And what about Dre? He's 42 and still raps, produces, and DISCOVERS the new talent of today!

Look, if Steven Tyler can still sell out concerts wearing spandex and jumping around on stage singing 70's & 80's music, than you can rap and dance hip-hop.

Do what you love, and the world be damned!

And it doesn't have to be demeaning... if you don't let it be. Rap some heavy rhymes like all the OG's that the teen-agers still hang on their walls in worship. Maybe you can put some class, respect and wisdom back into a rapidly declining art.

All the power to you!

(Just please... for God's sake... don't do the running man or the robot! Keep your moves fresh.)

You go girl! I'm 48 and I fill the same. You olny live once do what ever make you happy!

Ummm . . .

A goodly percentage (NOT ALL) of rap music is devoted to telling women to lay on their backs and spread their legs.

If you were a guy, your inclination would be understandable and they'd call you a dirty old man. That's what they call me when I ogle the 25-year olds.

If you are a lady, you might be able to find some other sort of music to dance to that wasn't so demeaning.

It's your choice. I've known 50-year old tap dancers.

Dance is first and foremost for the dancer, so if you enjoy it, there's nothing "wrong" with it. Your kids have the right to their opinions - and you could not dance around them, I suppose - but ultimately it's not about them.

"THANK YOU VERY MUCH"......I SAY ...DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going through the same thing with my 15 yr old twin daughters....i have yet to sign up......"i know i can do it, i used to do it ....."20 yrs ago!".hahaha i had to lol. GOODLUCK!

dO yO tHaNg Ma!!!:) ( ma is hip-hop slang for girl)

Rap and hip-hop are for the younger crowd. You can learn it if you want, but I would suggest trying new and other kinds of dances. There's many styles of dancing to choose from that are more meaningful.
