Lyrical dance is a modern dance form which fuses modern dance, jazz, and ballet. Lyrical dance is often referred to as contemporary dance. It requires excellent technique to perform, as the moves are often difficult and precise.

Moreover, the dancer must be well aware of facial expressions, essentially acting, to properly perform a lyrical dance piece.

A dance with lyrics?

Some freaky arsty fartsy thing.

well you are not stupid, cause I don't know either and I am smart! ;-)

Well there is classical ballet which is like what you would see in the Nutcracker. Then you have lyrical ballet which is ballet but it more of a modern dance feel to it and is less strict ballet. It is balletic but is looser in form than classical ballet. So I think that when people speak of "lyrical dance" they mean ballet but with a modern dance feel. For example the dance place I used to go to would choreograph ballet numbers to hard rock music and it was really cool.

Anya thats a dance done by dancers that show music by body movement.
Expressing emotion through movement.
Its a mix of ballet and jazz dance.

its kinda like a ballet
but it has more emotion and expresses feelings in the dance.

I take lyrical dance at my dance studio and it is sort of like ballet but less strict. It flows more and is less uptight then ballet.

I cannot answer your question but I would like to address the " really stupid question" part. There is no such thing as a stupid question. I wish I knew who said this but "To question is the answer". OK I lied when I said I could could not answer your question. After reading the others answers it is obvious to me that lyrical dancing is a metaphor. like the lyrics of a song must reflect the rhythm, tone and emotional feel of the tune, lyrical dance does the same thing. When I am listening to music in the front room and decide to go to the kitchen for a snack, as I dance from the front room to the kitchen I am engaging in "lyrical dance". This was a very good question. We both learned something today. Thank you.

lol lyrical is like dancing to a song and having more flowy slow movements. more "in tune" with the music. its really cool its like a modern ballet only with lyrical shoes and it has different techniques and moves

lyrical is a combination between jazz and ballet. with soft flowy music a little more upbeat then ballet. also is a type of dance where you show alot of emotion!

A mix between ballet and jazz

It is a style of dance that you can express what or how you feel through your dancing. It is almost a mixture of jazz and ballet. It is very powerful.
