Position:Home>Dancing> Brazilian Music and Dance- What is it?

Question:Tonight I am going to a brazilian night at a slasa club. However, I was told last minute that instead of it being salsa- which I can dance, and which I love, it will be Brazilian. I presume this means Samba etc..........
If I can dance salsa, will I still be able to dance the brazilian dances?Help, I don't want to make a fool of my self. And are brazilian dances very different to salsa, merengue, bachata?

Well enjoy it,
it really depends on the orgnisers. It depends which region of Brazilians the organisers want to target.

The variety of music includes some of these listed, Samba, Axe, Forro, Frevo, Boi Bumba, Gafieira, Bossa Nova, Pagode, Lambada Zouk, Calypso, Sertanejo, Samba Reggae, Funk, MPB, Tropicalismo, Rock and there are others.

But you'll have fun, Brazilian Parties are usually the best fun, You might pick up some stuff, some of it is couple dancing (but this is up to the music thats playing ), which you might pick up bits of. There are big differences between Brazilian Dance and Salsa based dances, just keep an open mind and enjoy the music. You might want to do some research on some of the music styles above or you tube them.

Have Fun!

There's a considerable difference, but you can bet most people there will be salsa dancers faking it, so go and have fun. Just don't expect that you'll learn anything about samba or any of the others.
