You shouldn't really need much padding in pointe shoes. If your second toe is longer than your first, then you might want a gel cushion temporarily under your big toe, but as you progress, your toes will actually change shape to accommodate frequent pointe work.

The other three main possibilities are:

a) That you are in a very ill-fitting pair of shoes. Make sure your teacher looks at them in between classes.

b) You are not quite ready for pointe. I know the rule of thumb is two years of technique and four tech classes per week, but there a dozens of very tiny muscles in your foot that need to get seriously pumped before you go up on your toes. Do very slow releves and work your entire foot for about two minutes before each class to help get them up to task.

c) You are sinking into your hips. What the h*** does this mean? It means the muscles around the bottom of your pelvis (pelvic floor) and your inner thigh are not strong enough to support your pelvis. Therefore, when you are on your toes, all the weight from your pelvis (the heaviest part of a girls body) goes straight to your toes. This not only makes your feet hurt, but makes it nearly impossible to do turns. To fix this, find a hard surfaced floor and a sheet of paper that can slide easily across it. Stand with your right foot on the paper and then slowly slide your right foot out, like you were going into a side split. Bend your knees very slightly, and try to pull your legs back together. Repeat this five times, then repeat with your left foot on the paper. After you've got the hang of it using your inner thigh muscles, use your pelvic muscles too. For me, the image of scooping the muscles underneath my pelvis and lifting my pelvis up away from the floor always works. You'll know when you're doing it right. Good luck:)

Forgive my ignorance, but what is pointe.

Pay your dues. Practice practic practice.

Do some foot streches

practice and stretch.

I've been on pointe for 6 years now and I still find it torture.. I find thinking of how much I hate my ballet teacher helps me to not feel the pain..

But then again..
She's worse than the shoes..

Maybe you need different padding or more padding, maybe even less.
Try different kinds of toe pads -gel, lambs wool, paper towels, tips-eez, etc. see what feels best.
You might have bunions so try some toe spacers.
If you get blisters, maybe you need to get bigger shoes.
Also, try different brands of shoes, capizio, freed, gaynor minden, bloch, suffolk's, etc.
Stretching your feet with those rubber stretchers is very good.
When doing pointe, try to get up on your box.
Good luck.

do it enough to where you can't feel the pain anymore.
my toes are so callused and everything that it doesn't even hurt anymore. also, your feet are probably still not used to all of the weight and pressure that you're putting on them. as you practice and do more pointe, your muscles will become used to that kind of stress you're putting on them!

good luck!!!!!!!

You might need to find a new shoe if the pain is that bad. Other than that try to pad the area that hurts specifically and just practice until you build up enough callus

i was doing pointe yesterday, and the stage i was practicing on was hard. i thought my feet were gonna fall off. it hurt SOOO bad. but you have to grin and bear it. just stretch your feet before and after you go en pointe and it should hurt less.

Keep your toenails short. I know it sound weird, but long toenails can really hurt when wearing pointe shoes. (Trust me, I've paid a couple times for forgetting to cut my toenails short.) They should be kept just shorter than the end of your toe. Also try different kinds of padding to see which one works best for you, and make sure your pointe shoes are the right size. Good luck dancing! =)
