Question:I know it's bad to try on pointe shoes without taking a pointe class, but if someone stood in them a certain way(of course practising at home for a while) would they be ok just to go up on the box and then back down? If so, please post what are the best ways for a beginner to stand in pointe shoes, and what are good ankle strenthening exercises to help with pointe. Where i would be buying these shoes, there is a VERY secure barre for standing and going onto the box(I have seen it). Thanks so much!

You need gel toe pads (regardless of the crazy statement made below) but you really shouldn't be doing that until your instructor says it's okay. I don't know how old you are but if not trained correctly (& it takes years to develop the arch and surrounding muscles) you could seriously damage your feet. The best way for a beginner to stand in pointe shoes is taking pointe classes, period. Be careful.

One day I was late for class, and didn't warm up like I should have. I broke my arch and have had to pay for that every day since. Terrible arthritis, bone spurs, etc.

Excuse me nomi!? That was very childish & rude.

Until you are rated expert & have been trained adequately, you'll have to use padding.

lol! I remember when I got muy first pointe shoes, I was ten. You can practice a little but be careful to not strain anything, get ready for blisters!

I WISH U LUCK I DIDN'T WANT TO DOP POINT! WHEN I WAS LIKE 11 OR 12 I WENT TO THIS DANCE PLACE AND THEY SAID THEY WANTED ME ON THE COPETIVE DANCE TEAM BUT I WOULD HANVE TO MOVE UP TO POINT ANDI SAID NO BEACUS MY FRIEND'S CUZ DID POITE FOR A YEAR AND SHE RUINED HER FEET FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE

whats pointe?

first of all, please please dont get pointe shoes without your teacher telling you that you are strong enough and you are taking a class.

also, dont listen to "noodlesmycat"

once your teacher tells you its OK and you get the shoes, dont get gel toe pads or spacers.
they make it hurt less but you cant feel where you are on the box and so your arch will not be as good as it could be.

DO NOT DO THIS! If you aren't in class, you have no idea how the shoe is supposed to fit, let alone how to prepare it. You don't just go buy a pair and start doing releves! If you don't know where to get the shoes, you don't need to get them. Please take a class and go about learning pointe safely.

AND gel pads are not for everybody, just as lamb's wool isn't for everybody. I suggest, once you have been approved by your teacher, that you try several different kinds to see what works best for YOUR feet and the style of shoe you need.
