Position:Home>Dancing> Finding A Great Ballroom Dance Partner..?

Question:I'm entering a Latin Ballroom dancing competition. I'm not new to competing, but the regular partner I've had for years now broke his leg and he won't be ready for the competition. We started dancing together because we were good friends already through the dance studio. I've never had to find my own partner. If anyone has tips on the best way to find highly qualified partners to audition that would be great. The rest of the people at my dance studio either have partners or aren't ready for my division. What's the best way to "advertise" for a partner where I could get a lot of responses? I'm fairly confident I could audition them and figure out if they're really good. I just need them to come :)

I'd advise to skip this particular comp and wait till his leg is back to normal. If he's a good partner he's a keeper. If by the time he gets well you've partnered up with someone else it won't be nice to the other guy to jump back to your old partner.

Other than that - search on http://www.ballroomdancers.com and http://www.dancepartner.com. See what other people's ads look like, decide which kind of ad looks good and compose your own in a similar way.
Be specific about yourself and specific about what you're looking for. For example, you're 5'5, 16 years old, 115 lbs, Pre-Champ level in International Latin, seeking to dance Youth (?) and Adult Pre-Champ, you want to practice 4 times a week for 2 hours, evening only because this is when your parents can take you to the studio. Your goal is to advance to championship level in 6 months. Your ideal partner is bet tween 5'8 and 6'0, eligible to compete in the specified age categories and has similar goals and practice schedule in mind. Competitive inquiries only. He's not allowed to break his limbs or you'll dump his a**.

like give people at school that you know and see how good they are and who ever is the best then help them get better that might help dont knock it untill you try it ok??????????

Finding a Great Ballroom Dance Partner is like trying to nail jello to a tree. Okay, maybe it's not that bad, but it can certainly be a challenge!

First, be real clear about what you want in a partner, e.g. Seeking Silver Level male lead for Latin dance competition in January. Needs to be proficient in all five of the Latin dances. Must be over 5'6" and available to practise 3 times a week.

Second, advertise at ALL the qualified dance studios in your area as well any local ballroom dance societies. Word of mouth is often the best bet, so get the word out that you're looking for a partner. Failing that, depending on time constraints, you could try on-line.

Finally, line 'em and take them for a test drive (in the comfort and safety of your dance studio of course.)

Good luck!

There are some ballroom websites which let people advertise for partners. You dont HAVE to get one your level, you could get one who is less experienced and train him up to your level but make sure he has talent of course
