Position:Home>Dancing> Taking up ballet lessons as an adult?

Question:I'm 22 now and I took ballet lessons from the age of 5-14. I danced pointe and got to a fairly advanced level. But between college (and other things) i've gotten out of shape. I've still retained by muscular legs and great arch, but I'm really not flexible anymore. Would I be able to take adult classes and get back en pointe? Any suggestions for getting back in shape? Thanks

Absolutely you can take an adult class. You will have to ease back into being more flexible and into "shape". Be sure you warm up really well and then stretch as best you can. Take it slow and don't overdo anything - the last thing you need is an injury that is slow to heal. At 22 you are hardly "old" and really shouldn't have a hard time. You should also be able to get back into the advanced womens classe after a few months (if not sooner). I've seen a bunch of women like you start off in adult class then as they get in shape and flexible move into a group that has more classes/week . Good Luck.

best way to get back in shape is to get back to class. meantime, you probably remember your barre work (plies, tendus, etc), so you can practice that around the house.
do go and enjoy!
