Position:Home>Dancing> Pointe Ballet?

Question:I am trying out for a arts high school where they have dance daily. One day it's modern, the next ballet. If i get in, it would be my first year doing ballet (besides one year when i was 5) and i was wondering, if i got really good, and signed up for ballet and my studio, do you think after 4 years in high school ballet I could do pointe? If not, how long untill or if earlier, when?

Well, i thin u can make it in four years, but i think you will have to take more than the classes in school. You need to keep you strength and technique up as well as flexibility and focus.
I honestly think you will a lot more training. Master the basics than work really hard on the hard stuff like leaps, jumos, truns and adagio. I thin kyou will need about at least 6 years of training. It depends if you teracher is good to. I give you fair warning, some studios put people on pointe just because they want to or that person has just one really good quality, such as a good arch in their foot. work little butt of anf u'll be fine.
Best of Luck

So ballet is once a week? Well its highly individual about when a dancer is ready for en pointe. go for it and see. It has to do with body type as well . Its great discipline. A warning though-highly competitive.

To be able to do pointe, you would probably have to take a pre-pointe class. Once your ancles got strong enough, and your teacher thought that you were ready, she would put you on pointe shoes. It only took me one year of pre-pointe to get on to pointe shoes, but it varies from person to person. Talk to your dance teacher about it. Good luck, pointe is GREAT!:]

maybe i am not your teacher and i would have to see you dance so if you wanted to post a youtube video than i would look but there is no way i could determine whether or not you would be ready. i am thinking no because its high school and not professional but i am also thinking maybe cuz you have taken lyrical and such so idk!

Okay , i don't want to sound offensive in any way , but usually performing art school's take girls and boys who've had A LOT of training and unless you are auditioning for year 7 or 8 (which i do not know if you're in a different country what the quivalent is) they usually ask if you get a call back to pointe excersises , Auditioning for these types of school's are hard mind you , at least where I live and usually about 400 people audition only about 30 get in . Well you could always try your best , and go for it , keep dancing hard , and for pointe you need at least a minimum of 2 years proffesional training so ballet classes at least 3 times a week.
Good luck

That's really hard to say. From my poinion that wouldn't be a smart idea. If your teacher was smart, she wouldn't out you on pointe after only 4 years. It took me and most of my class 6 years before we could get our pinte shoes and before we were strong enough. It really all depends on the teacher! Also it's hard to just pick up where everyone else your age when joining again for the firts time in so many years. You have to, like all the rest of the students, work your way up to wheere you belong. You may have to take some extra classes if you want to be with your age group also!

Good Luck =)

i am 11 and have been doing ballet for...um....3 years.usually you go on point when your about 13 but because your older it will be about 3-5 years.i am still waiting to hear from my teacher if i can go on point.where is your school ?-GOOD LUCK!!!!

You defiantly could I reckon :) Your school might even make pointe work compulsory after a certain year. This Performing Arts School I auditioned for makes pointe work compulsory in Year 8 (Australia). Perhaps they do that too or something similair.

Even if you don't get into the school, still keep on going with Ballet at your studio because it would improve your modern and jazz :)

Good Luck in your audition and I hope this helps :)
