Position:Home>Dancing> I want to dance but I just can't , any advice?

Question:Whenever I watch my classmates dance on school programs I want to dance too, but I don't know how to dance . I joined once, but it took hard for me to memorize all the steps. And in the end the leader of the dance group said to me ,'' You're good, but try next time.'' I know what that means . I know the leader is saying I'm not good enough to join them. Now Christmas is near and I know there's going to be a school program again for celebrating the Christmas season, and I know that our teacher will divide us into groups and we will prepare a dance to perform at the program . Maybe at the presentation day we are the worst because of me. I know in my self I can dance , but do you think I'm shy, so I can't do or memorize the steps?

Being shy has nothing to do with memorzing the steps or how well you can do them. You need to be confident in yourself and dont listen to what anyone says about your dancing. If you feel that you can dance and its what you love to do dont let anyone say or do anything to take that away from you. Just have fun when your dancing and if you forget what some of the steps are you should just dance whatever comes out of you. Everyone makes mistakes while they perform a dance but no one is able to notice because the just make up a new dance on the spot and the audience doesnt know how the real routine goes except for you. If your stil having trouble understanding or memorizing the dance i might suggest that you take a dance class or ask a friend to help you out. Practice everyday is what i suggest to get the dance steps down. All it takes is dedication and hard work.

I completely sympathize with your issue. When I was a kid, up until I was 18, I absolutely could not dance. I would go to school dances and watch the other kids dance, but I just had no rhythm.

It wasn't until I started to dance for myself, in my own room with the lights low and the music loud enough that I could forget about everything else that I finally found my rhythm. I still can't do choreographed dances, but I tear it up on the dance floor. When I dance for myself, I find the beat and make it my own. When I dance with other people it feels absolutely forced.

Being shy could definitely be part of your problem with memorizing the steps, or it could be that to you (just like me) dance is a very personal thing. There is nothing wrong with that, it just makes you different than people who can do what they're told. Love your rhythm, and it will love you back. You just have to find it your own way.

I know what u mean.. it can be hard..
go have a chat with the teacher ahead of time.. and tell her what it means to u..
and u want to take part.. ..don't be shy.. about it..
she will understand too..

perhaps she can put u and a few others doing something else.. or ask her to do so..
but u must let her know.. as not to embarrasses Ur self.. !!!

we all are good at something more so than others.. and I am sure u can dance as well.. but u need to time to learn the steps ... perhaps they just catch on faster..

plz try to explain to the teacher after class..
good luck..
