My girlfriend has been doing it for almost 9 years (we've only been together a year and a half) but it was only a slight culture shock for me. My cousins did clogging so I was used to the whole dancer-competition scene.

Like most styles of dance, it takes a lot of effort to be truly good at it, yet unlike some styles of dance, you can be unique in your dress styles and the way you present yourself. Overall, I enjoy going to her dance competitions (better known as a feis) and watching her compete.

For more info, you should go to efeis.com and perhaps go to a competition. It's a good cultural experience!

i have actually heard of it but i have no idea what you do! i know that you wear like skirts and stuff but thats it! so i am assuming that you know better than i do!

my daughter does irish stepping classes. this is her second year and she absolutely loves it. its fun but alot of work. the teacher at my daughters dance school does a wonderful job. for the first years you wouldnt believe they are first years. i would definitely recomend it if your looking for something fun and lots of exercise

I Irish dance and it is a great sport. I've only been doing it for about a year but I've already won gold medals! There are 2 types of dancing performed: Hard shoe and soft shoe(otherwise known as a ghillie). There are reels(easy, treble), jigs(slip, light, treble, etc) and other dances. It takes a lot of endurance and is difficult but not overwhelming. I practice whenever I can and I think it's really fun and rewarding. The rewarding part comes in when you get to go perform at feisanna(plural for feis;a competition). Feisanna are so much fun and you get to meet tons of new people! At my first one I was a bit scared but as soon as I got there it wasn't frightening at all! Everyone was really nice and helped me with whatever I needed. Irish dance is a really warm and welcoming form of dance and I love it. Hope it helped!

Irish dancing or clogging is similar to tap but with out all the arm movements. The body is held quite rigid and the feet, legs and hips do all the movement. If you have ever watched "River Dance" then you have seen Irish dancing. I think this is one of the most elegant forms of dancing there are. Being Irish, I wish I had learned it as a girl. Now I can only watch. It is amazing and very strenuous. I hope this helped.

Irish Dance is a centuries old tradition that incorporates many different cultures that have inhabited Ireland over time. Organizations that hold competitions are called Féile (Feis is the broad term meaning festival). Informal dances held by towns or neighbourhoods are called céilí dance(not to be confused with céilí which is a social gathering).

Céilí is a social dance; Irish Step is performance dance. Irish Step is from the tradition of Sean-Nós, or old style dance, this was popularized by Riverdance and Lord of the Dance.

This is just a general explanation, Irish Dance is complex in there are so many forms of each style of dance, including footwear, there's a soft shoe and a hard shoe.

As with any cultural experience Irish Dance is a huge part of my life. It defines me and my family and were we come from. I used to compete when I was younger but as with any form of dance is takes a toll on your body over time. Most professional Irish Dancers retire before they are 30 because of the chance of serious injury. The most common are broken bones, torn ligaments, shin splints, and hamstring injuries.

When my son turns 4 next year he will carry on the family tradition and start lessons. Irish dance is good craic (Gaelic for a good time) and I recommend anyone to try it, Irish or not!!

My daughter and I both Irish Dance and we love it. You should be able to find a copy of Lord of the Dance at your local video store. It's a wonderful display of Irish dance.
