Depends what kind of dancing you're looking for. You want
- solo dancing (grooving to the music alone, tap dancing, performance dancing)
-partner dancing (ballroom, swing, salsa),
-choreographed dancing (hip-hop)
-dancing in the club?

Oh, I think I know what you want, you want performance/choreographed dancing like you see in concerts and shows.

Hm... the problem is that without teachers you probably won't learn the fundamentals and technique about dancing. So in that case, I think you should just try your best to imitate some dance routine that you like and is pretty easy. Then, once you've practiced try to find a friend who does dance help you, or just any friend to comment on how you look. Don't start out with something too hard or you'll just give up too quickly!

for one thing, dancing is so much fun! if you are nervous, just take a beginners' class. i recommending starting at the beginning of the semester so that you don't have to catch up. you should be the one to determine what kind of dance. i love hip hop! it is really fun!!! i would start with either that or ballet. ballet is like the base of all dance

I personally believe that dancing is a form of self expression. If you can find the rhythm in your body and move, then I think its start. Then try to imitate the moves of real dancers. That would loosen up your joints and your body movement would be more fluid.
Oh, don't forget to stretch first before you dance.
