Question:I got injured in dance about 4 months ago ...before that i was at the studio like 4 hrs a day 5 days a week .... im going to go back soon and i was just wondering how much "ability" or strength do you think i have lost and will it be hard to get it back?? thanks so much

Depends on how physically fit you were, how sedentary you were while out, your age & how serious the injury. I'd start out with only an hour & see how you feel. But before then I'd do leg strengthening exercises to get your muscle tone back.

A little trick I learned in PT was to freeze water in a paper cup with a stick. After exercising I'd tear the paper off & use the ice covered stick & roll it up & down my legs. To my surprise I realized I had strained the muscles more than I thought because the ice didn't even feel cold, just cool. There was no obvious inflamation yet the muscles had been so strained they were almost numb, though I couldn't tell it just by walking. So I learned to measure the muscle strain by the feel of the ice. The colder it felt the less strain.

The older you get the faster you lose muscle tone. So it really does depend upon all the things I listed above. You didn't start out doing 4 hrs. a day so it will take time especially with dancing which works out your entire muscular group including your heart. I'd guess at least a few months to get back where you were before.

I think you will have lost a lot....but it will come back quickly also if you still are dancing a 5 day week. It will be hard at first I can say that but keep going and stretch every day... if you ballet do a simple barre work like a quick ten minuet thing just to get your body use to what it will be doing again and it will help build a strength back...

I soon will be getting surgery. I am scared so how long it will take to heal and how much I will be able to do too.

Well... you will deffinally need to spend more time practicing every day. It will take like 1 month-3 months to get back all your ability. Here are some tips...
1. Eat right, if you eat good you will have more energy and will result in dancing better
2. Stretch, before dancing stretch a lot, after a while I am sure you will get you flexibility back
3. Practice, don't just practice in the dance studio, also practice at home on you own
4. Try really hard, and I am sure you will regain you strength and ability back
