Question:I would love to learn how to do a front and back walkover. I can easily do a crab/bridge and i can do handstands. i can do the handstands where u go up and then lower down in a laying position. i can do cartwheels and round-offs. I am not that flexible thouugh i am doing 10 minutes of stretching every morning and night to get myself supple.

1) are front walkovers easier than back?
2) Are front splits easier than side?
3) which stretches do i need to focus on to do a successful walkover?

1. personally, i think front walkovers are easier, but back walkovers are easier to get out of! the problem with front walk overs is that, ideally, you should pull right up, whith arms by your ears, but its much harder than just standing up out of a back walkover. The weight placement once youre on one foot is everything in both moves. When doing the front, try to square your hips so that your landing foot has the weight distributed evenely between both legs. On the back walkover, you need to square away befre you start going back.

2. Its been my experience, both as a dancer and as a teacher, that most people get their middle and their good side split first, and then really struggle with the other front split. i got my two fronts first. it varies by dancer

3. In addition to stretching your back and legs, work on stretching your shoulders for walkovers, as they take a lot fo the abuse in this move, and are the only things supporting you during the transitions. I would really suggest perfecting a backbend from standing as opposed to being able to push into a bridge, mainly because walkovers requires your feet to be closer to your hands than is usually accomplishable in a bridge without walking in.

You'll get it, it sounds like you already have some good basics!

I believe back walk overs are easier. To go t wall with your back towards it and try walking your hands all the way down a wall.

also, try a rocking bridge and try and stand up. just rock from your hands to your feet til you get enough momentum to stand.

I believe splits are better on the side that you do everything with.

I would recomend doing a lot of bridges, and just streaching your entire body.

In my opinion, back walkovers are easier. I'm not sure about splits, I can do all of them. Start by doing a bridge. Make sure in your bridge, your shoulders are over your hands. Then try to kick over, if you can't, have someone spot you.

1) Personally I found back walkovers easier.
2) I think RL forward splits are easier that RL back or box/side splits
3) I was taught to do back walkovers by crabbing next to a wall (feet near the wall) then walking up the wall and flipping my feet down over my head. Then take less and less steps up the wall until you can kick over from the floor. Sorry that doesn't really answer about the stretches.
