Here is the news story from KPHO, "News 5," in Phoenix. The video has been pulled from YouTube, but parts of it still exist on this news web site.

Given this tiny bit of information, it seems to me that this is another example of a school administration tossing our First Amendment rights for freedom of expression out the window.
Apparently, this occurred in a Humanities classroom and, while cheer dancing might seem to not belong in an academic classroom, the fact is that the study of dance IS PART of the Humanities. No one would have fired the teacher if she had been in traditional African clothes and doing a traditional African dance. The other faculty members in the school have also forgotten that they don't give up their rights to free speech by being teachers. It's the kid who recorded this video against school rules for using a cell phone in class that needs to be punished.

You would be well within your rights to make and wear t-shirts that bear a statement about this situation. The Supreme Court upheld students' rights of political speech in the form of clothing many years ago during the Viet Nam war. If the stupid administration imposes consequences, then call up your local ACLU so they can teach your school a lesson in the Bill of Rights. I hope this teacher is contacting them as well.

Wow. I heard about that in my history class.
My teacher always does current events, and he mentioned this to us.
Yeah, we all thought that it was pretty ignorant.

If you make those t-shirts, then maybe you wouldn't get any consequences.
Talk with it to another teacher maybe, who has the same opinion as you?

The faculty cannot penalize you for peacefully protesting. I wouldn't go so far as to stage a student walk out, but t-shirts and petitions are always nice.

You better talk to the teacher about it first as there might be something behind the scenes that you don't know about. Just tell her what you are thinking of doing before you do it to get her opinion

talk to your cheer coach first. ask why she was fired and tell her that you and your classmates would like to help her. If the reason for her being fired is just because of her putting your video on youtube, then form a group and construct or make a letter to the school administration imploring them to take back your cheer coach. But remember that your letter will be taken in to consideration more if you have a lot of signatures and some signatures of the important people in your school, like your cheering captain; your head teacher; your guidance counselors and her fellow teachers.
your t-shirt idea is also a possible form of petition. you decide...hope i helped...
