Position:Home>Dancing> Do u have to learn gymnastics from a young age?

Question:I am 19, 5'4" and i would love to learn gymnastics. Not talking classes here, i mean basic gymnastics on my own. Is it possible for a 19 year old to become that flexible? If so how long would it take and how much stretching would i have to do. any ideas for the best stretches i could do?

Well I'm in gymnastics and I'm15, I have been in gymnastics sense I was 3 and even as I got older and more advanced I still had problems. I have broke my arm from tumbling, fractured my nose from falling off the balance beam and etc. It will be hard but to start practice on the wall some back bends and get your arms and back strong and balanced then go for front/back walkovers. Stretch everyday and in 3 weeks you should be able to do the splits, only if you stretch EVERYDAY!!!!!

It depends on how supple your body is but this kind of sport is best at a very young age

too late to be really good but go for it

I think so yes. I did it from about 8 until 11 at school (before moving on to horse riding which was more fun) and even then took a while to get into it. At least the gym training helped when I fell off!

You don't know until you try. My friend is going to nursing school she is 51 yrs, my other friend is just learning how to swim, she is 60. A woman down the street who has 5 kids is just learning how to ride a bike (she's 32). You are still a young girl and the world is yours. GO FOR IT!!!

yes this is something you do from a young age, only gymnastics i do now is wiv my hubby in bedroom lol

I took gymnastics for 3 years when I was younger which was when I was 7 and let me tell you it was hard then and it will be harder now. It is possible to become a little flexible at 19 because I am very close to your age. It will take a couple would take 6 months or more to be really flexible. You would have to do a lot of stretching such as splits, touching your toes, push ups, sit ups, and jumping jacks. The best stretch I would suggest for you since your just starting is jumping jacks and touching your toes and work your way up. Also in gymnastic you have to have a lot of balance especially on the balance beams and going over the pole. Plus you able to stretch before doing any cartwheel or flips because if you don't you will hurt a mussel. Even though I don't take lessons no more I still do the basic like stretching, splits, and cartwheels. Good Luck and if you're looking for a place to go to learn gymnastics the YMCA is the best place to learn gymnastics. That where I went for my lessons when I was younger.

to late to go for it because yr big and the best is when your small you could be profesional but tell u u can have lessaons and learn
go for it if you wan t o
