danseur or ballerino.

a BallerinO

"The male partner of the ballerina is known as the "Cavalier". "

'Danseur' is the French word for male ballet dancer

I could be wrong, but the only name I have ever heard them called is either the prime dancer, or the lead dancer!
Hope this helps!

Just a ballet dancer.

And have you ever taken her to go SEE the ballet, where you can read the program and show her the bios of all the "ballet dancers," male and female? (The programs won't list the women as "ballerinas.") Since this appears to be an on-going question, it sounds as though your daughter needs to see first-hand that the professional world of ballet is not filtered through a female lens.

the traditional term is danseur
