Position:Home>Dancing> Please help!! Which ballet class should i go to?

Question:i want to take adult ballet classes and have found the following classes:

1) there's a classical ballet short course - 9 classes (1hr class per wk). it starts next week!! when you finish this, you can move on to classical ballet 2. (but they haven't given a timetable for classical ballet 2, so i don't know when this class will take place.. it could be next year! i don't want to wait that long.)

2) open classes - you can join at any time, and take however many classes you want. i would be joining the Entry level class.

which is better?? i don't know!

someone with experience with this / ballet teachers / dancers... please tell me!

You specifically say you don't want to wait that long to move to the next level. I would go with option 2. At my studio, there is an amazing teacher for the open adult ballet classes---she is a dancer for Ballet West. Teachers for those kind of courses are more able/willing to work around your schedule, and when you improve, it shouldn't be too hard to advance.
You sound really serious about taking these classes. If that's true, then I think you should take option #2. In my opinion though you should forget ballet and take pole dancing classes. Those look really fun!
I have a moderately strong knowledge of French, so even if you take adult ballet classes, you still need to know some French, because ballet terms are usually in French. It is not enough to know things like "arabesque" and "pirouette".

I say take these classes if you have done a lot of jump roping or other activities that require you to jump, like hip-hop dancing or even high-impact aerobics. When you get to the advanced level especially, ballet is filled with spectacular jumps like the "entrechat trois" or the "entrechat six" or the "pas de chat" or the "temps leve."

The only problem with a 9-week course is that it is not significant enough to be a great ballet dancer. The only reward for those 9-weeks is that your posture will be a little bit better even if you are not the best dancer. Being a great ballet dancer usually takes 4 years with 4 years of practice and constant amounts of off-class practice at the barre.

Watch Mikhail Baryshnikov. In the past he had been known for spectacular ballet jumps when he was a ballet celebrity on TV. That should inspire you greatly. Good luck.
take the open classes.
i've danced for 12 years. i'd take the open class
