I would say It dosn't hurt at all because I have been on pointe since I was 10. I'm now 13 and love pointe. On a scale from 1-10 though, I would choose a three because once when I just started pointe, my foot got all bloody and a lot of blisters were on my foot. Pointe feels wonderful. It makes you feel light and delicate. You feel like you are flying when you are up on pointe. It's like a dream. A beautiful dream. It's a lot of fn because you are on the tips of your toes and it makes you feel really tall because I'm short and I like the feeling of tall. The best brand of pointe shoe would have to be Gaynor Minden but if you can't get that then the second best would be capezio because bloch sells hard pointe shoes that don't break in easily. I have capezio pointes. They are really flexible shoes and easy to work with. Some websites about pointe are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointe .
I can help you learn more about pointe too. Here's some things you need to know-
Darning pointe shoes- Take a needle ( sewing needle) and stick it through the threads of the tip of the pointe shoe. This will make them look new and unused. If you want them to look new and unused.

Rosin- Rosin is made from the sap of fir trees. It crumbles into a white powder if you step on it. After tying your shoes, put the tips of your toes into the rosin box, one foot at a time. A little rosin on your shoes will help you avoid slipping on a wooden floor. It should not be necessary on a vinyl floor, which is usually less slippery.

Perfect positioning- It is a wonderful thing when you dance on the tips of your toes. You feel light and delicate. Try to keep a vertical line through the center of your feet. It is especially important that you do not allow your feet to sickle, or tilit sideways over your big or little toes, when on pointe. Sickling can lead to permanant injury.

Pointe shoes are made of- The tips of pointe shoes are made of layers of satin, paper, and a coarse material called burlap, glued together. New shoes feel stiff and hard and have no left and right. It takes time and care to break them in and make them conform to your feet. You need to feel as if your shoes are a second skin. Then you will be able to "speak with your feet."

Perfect pointe- You must resist the temptation to rely on your shoes to hold you up on pointe. It will only make your work look dull and heavy, but will wear your shoes out much faster. Use your muscles instead. Try to balance perfectly on the tip of your toe. Your foot should look so strong and poised that the audience believes you could stand on pointe without a shoe! Good luck! Hope you love pointe! I hoped this helped a lot!

It does hurt. Maybe like... a 7. For me at least. Some girls it's like a 22 on a 1-10 scale. Your toes feel really hot, like there's a lot of pressure on them, 'cause there is. There is no best brand of shoe. I dance with Blochs now and don't really like them. I've heard a lot of good things about Russian Pointe but you're a beginner so I wouldn't recommend them.

Go on wikipedia, or http://www.angelfire.com/oh2/chezsarah/d...

And, it depends on how determined you are if you want to quit or not. Personally, I love it and have never considered quitting, but I know some girls who have quit because it hurt that bad. Most don't quit though. Most girls can suck it up.

Merde!
make sure you cut your big toe-nails! and if your a beginner, get a toepad you can feel the floor with but it still give you comfort
Pointe is exciting! You can get toe protectors or wrap your toes in tape, etc. to keep your feet from hurting. If it hurts too much, then you probably aren't ready yet, and should wait. Try the Bloch and Freed of London websites, they're nice. I used Sansha, and they worked great, but it all depends on your budget. If you really like dancing, then you could probably find a way around any pain, and not let it stop you from doing what you love. Good luck!
Congradulations on going on pointe! I was so excited when I first got my pointe shoes. I personnally like Capezios. They fit my foot the best. I tried Bloch last year and didn't really like them so I switched back to Capezio. Yes pointe does hurt, for me probably an 8 or 7 but I have not-so-wonderful knees so they hurt sometimes. I would recommend either lambs wool or gel toe-pads. They work best for me. When you first get your shoes, MAKE SURE you break them in. Hit them on the floor, bend them with the door, bend them in half, rub the point on the driveway anything to get them to not be so stiff otherwise it is going to hurt like heck when you first use them. usually for beginners, there is a metal or wooden shank that runs up and down the for support and bending it makes it easier for you to point and gives the shoe more flexibility. Going on pointe makes your feet feel like there is a lot of pressure on them. If you are on pointe for a while, your toes might even go numb, mine do sometimes.
To make your ankles stronger which helps A LOT, sit on a bed or chair and write the alphabet in the air using your feet. Make the shapes of the letters moving your feet with your ankles. I know it sounds weird but trust me, it will pay off later and make your ankles really strong.
I have never wanted to quit pointe. I absolutely love it!! Good luck in dance!!!
Trying to read you're alternating caps and lower case is what really hurts.
It does hurt at first but as you get used to it it hurts a lot less!

There are things you can do to stop it hurting so much.

Get your shoes properly fitted by a qualified fitter in a dance shop (or you'll end up damaging your feet).

Keep your toenails short.

Wear "ouch pouches" inside your pointe shoes.

Wrap tape, plasters/Band Aids or lambswool around your toes.

When you start dancing en pointe you won't be doing a huge amount of complicated work - you can usually just about stand the pain to do the small amount of work you have to do at such an early stage. As you get stronger and more confident you can do more.

Bloch or Capezio are good to start off with as they are strong and offer lots of support.

I'm starting back at ballet classes after 18 months off and and I KNOW pointe's gonna hurt! ouch!!!
Pointe does hurt but not so much that you want to quit and never see a pointe shoe in your whole life. When you begin pointe you are really excited and you don't seem to notice the pain at all. From a scale of 1-10, I think about a 7.

I use Bloch pointe shoes, they're a very good beginners, soon I will be using Gaynor Minden's to get that bit more of an arch in my foot.

The feelings indescribable, your toes are kind of squashed up against the shoe and when you take them off all you can feel is relief from your feet.
Does it hurt? YES, but you get used to it and goes away after a while. For me personally, the pain was about an 8, but for my sister is was barely a two!

What does it feel like? Well, besides painful, you feel kind of off balance at first, since you're balancing on just the tips of your toes! As you get used to it, though, it becomes fun. And you feel so much taller lol !

Best brand of shoes? It all depends on your foot. Everyone's feet are different, and there are tons of brands of shoes out there. I personally like Grishko (a Russian brand, but you can find them easily in the US), and Chacott, but Bloch and Capezio work for some people as well. You just have to find the shoe that's right for your foot. (Suggestion: My dance teacher took our class as a group to get our first pair of pointe shoes, so she could make sure they all fit right. Maybe your teacher can do the same).

Here are some links that have some info on pointe:

Hope these have what you're looking for!

Good luck!
at first it hurt me at all....
but then i got sum blisters and it was up on that 6 or 7 pain
but after my feet got a lil tougher.
but pretty much when i wasnt blistered then i didnt think it hurt.
First, there is no best brand, it depends on many factors which kind of shoe is best for you. those would include the shape of your foot, strength of your arches, how long each class will be, how much of the class si at barre versus center. that said, you also have a lot of ioptions concerning pads and spacers and the like. once you find the right combo of shoe and padding pointe really isnt that bad at all. your first pair will likely be the most painful ones, just because youre not sure what to expect, but it isnt excrutuiating pain. most likely, if you experience a problem it will eb abruised toenail, which takes forver to heal, but by no means is a medical emergency. the more you expirement with different options, the easier it gets!
Good shoes to start with are Bloch Sonata because they have built-in padding in the toes, so if you wear pads with that too, it doesn't really hurt at all. They are, however, extremely hard to break in, but they are great beginner shoes :]
If you get the right shoes, it shouldn't hurt more than a 5 on a 1-10 scale. My first pair of pointe shoes I would rate as a 1 out of 1-10 scale of pain.
I now dance with Grishko 2007's and they're very easy to dance in. They break in easily but they hurt a lot more.
If it hurts, then it'll feel like either your toes are numb or they're on fire.
It doesn't hurt so bad that you want to quit, because especially when it hurts really bad, you can look at your feet in the mirror while standing on pointe and go "oo la la" and it'll boost your mood a bit :]
Congratulations on starting pointe! You must be very excited! Pointe does hurt, but with time it becomes much more bearable. You can buy toe pads, which definately alleiviate the pain- Ouch Pouch by BunHeads are good. There is no desricption as to how pointe feels, but i expect it is different for everyone. You are dancing on your toes, and can feel the floor through the shoe. There is no best brand of shoes, it is different for everyone. It does not hurt so badly that you want to quit. You may find you are not very good at pointe at first (like everything in ballet, it is not as easy as it looks!)
Congratulations on starting Pointe! For, how much does it hurt, I'd say a 6. It feels a bit awkward, and your feet get very hot, because of how tight the pointe shoes are and how hard you're working. Also, theres pressure on your toes and sides of your feet if they're wider.

There isn't really a "best brand," but you want one that fits your feet properly. For beginners, Bloch, Capezio are the best. But Gaynor Minden's can be good and bad. Good because they are easy to use and work with, but bad because they don't make your feet work as much.

To learn about Pointe try Wikipedia, or googling pointe. And at times it has hurt so much I just wanted to quit, but most of the time it's just fun!
