Question:I do Jazz dancing. I need to be able to do the splits. I stretch everyday but does anyone know of some really good stretches ???

do yoga routines for dancers.
do straddles up against the wall.. see how far you need to go. strectch your legs on the bar.. batmas..do splits on the bar.. then do your slips on the floor. Hope this helped.
I know your are not a ballerina, but this really helps a lot. If you do four plies before attempting a split, you will get really good at your splits. Here are some other ideas:
* Sit on the floor, open your legs out to the side as far as they can go. Stretch to your right foot, then stretch to your left. Now stretch your hands out in front of you down the middle (Improves middle split.)
* Sit in a pretzel position, stretch over to your left, then the right. (Improves stretch of arms.)
* Attempt a split. In your front split with your right leg, put your hands up. Have somebody push your legs down. This will hurt a little but it will help a lot!
Okay.....here is what I do in dance everyday and at home...

1. Go into your butterfly stretch while pushing down your legs with your hands.

2. Go into your right split and hold it for 10 counts. Then lean toward your front leg & try to put your chest flesh up against your front leg. Then arch back and try to touch your head to your back leg.

3. Go into your butterfly stretch again and push your legs down with your hands.

4. Repeat number 2 but go into your left split.

5. Then go up against a wall that has tons of open space, and go into your straddle and push up against the wall.

6. Go into your FROG stretch. (You can go up against a wall and put your back feet up against the wall and push into your frog stretch)

7. Then I go into my scorpion

8. Then I do my oversplits. (put your left/right leg on something that is at least 2 feet of the ground. And go into your split. You goal is to touch your back leg and your bottom to the ground)

9. Then I lay on the ground and lean forward and touch my toes & then hug my legs and hold it for 10 counts.

10. Then I go into my straddle again but this time away from the bar. While you are in your straddle reach toward your right leg & touch your right foot. (hold it for 5-10 counts) Then go to the left side and touch your left foot. (hold for 5-10 counts)

By that time it is time to start the center work.
Butterfly stretch
Hurdle stretch
Lunges
"Flat backs"
Scorpios

1. Stretch
2. Lunge forward
3. Lunge backward
4. Slide out
5. If you're close, lean on one hip
6. DO NOT GET USED TO # 5!

push your shoulders until you go into the splits.
You'll pull a muscle, and won't be able to do them
for a while.
ok this is how i got my splits:

start doing a lunge and just stretching your legs out. then do a series of fast kicks to the front, side and back and then jump into a split as best as you can w/o hurting yourself. switch sides and keep repeating until you're really warm. but DONT FORCE YOURSELF INTO A SPLIT BECAUSE ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU'RE BOUNCING, YOU CAN HURT YOURSELF. well then, just go into the best split you can and hold your hands up above your head and eventually your weight will pull yourself down and you'll get your splits! that's exactly how i learned, but i'm also really flexible... but just be really careful not to strain your muscles and make sure you're stretched and warm first!! good luck!
ok. lunge on you foot at far as you can go (front leg bent, back leg straight) do that for abot ten secs. now go up, both legs straight but streching down far as possible. again 10 secs. go back, back leg bent, front leg straight leaning foward as far as possible. 10 secs. now do the splits as far as you can go. and do the other foot. do this every day and you will be able to do the splits in no time. hope this helped!
