Question:

Jazz dance or Ballet dance??Which one to choose?

i really want to get into dancing.im 16 years old but not sure if its too late to start. As a beginner which should i chose? Jazz or Ballet? Either class i want it to help me become a better dancer. Plus id liek to do turns and leaps and stuff like that if you knwo what i mean.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: well first of all its never to late to start dancing! and if u want to get better faster i suggest ballet. ballet is the foundation of all dance. if u cant do ballet ur not gonna be able to do anything else. i swear it! i coudnt be the dancer i am now if i hadnt started out with ballet!! yes jazz is more fun but i say start out with ballet and once u have takin that for awhile you can work yur way up to takin jazz classes. jazz will be soo much easier if u have taken ballet first and understand the moves they will want u to do. like point your feet, pirhouette, things like that. i hope this helps!!

dancer of 11 going on 12 years i think jazz is way better, i started when i was nine, it is alot of fun!!! it has a lot of fast moves to. I'm not a dancer but it seems to me that jazz dancers are having way more fun on stage than ballet dancers if you're going for the moves then jazz. personally i prefer ballet but it's very sensual ans u gotta be a real dreamer and truely romantic to hold onto it. jazz is more accepted in public and it has very hard and quick moves too. it really gets your attention. so go for it. I chose them both and loved both. The ballet exercises help you develop the muscles to do the jazz moves. First of all you are never too old to do anything that you have a passion for. I have studied Jazz, modern and ballet and what I have learned is that ballet will give you a good foundation to use for any dance style even ballroom. You will learn to stay centered, to spot on your turns, how to get power to leap high in the air. All of the good basics that you can then use in all other styles that are more fun to do. This is where you will learn to do those "turns and leaps and stuff like that". You are about to embark upon a journey that will be hard work but lots of fun. enjoy yourself. jazz=
your more likely to be put into a clas with your age group.
Great fun.
Great exercise.
Defo has turns and leaps.
Awesome music.
Better to be a older beginner in my opinion.
Less technique than ballet in my opinion ~(better for a older beginner).
Cheaper than ballet. (just jazz shoes you need to buy, possibly like trousers or top depedns where you learn)

Ballet=
So beautiful.
More likely to be put in a younger class or a group of older better people.
More technique.
More expensive (leotard, pointe shoes, ballet shoes, skirt etc)

in my opinion jazz is better for you however it is up to you which ever you think you would prefer..........try taking both for a few weeks and then decide if you are unsure!!!!
good luck....dancing is awesome!!! I really think u should choose ballet. If u wan 2 do any type of dance u should begin wit ballet. Ballet is used in different types of dances and it helps u with balance and technique. I hate to do leaps and turns as well, but trust me....its GOOD 2 learn it. It's never too late to start. I've been dancing since I was 3, and I took ballet starting off, but you being 16.. I think you should start with jazz. Ballet is more and more complex each age level. It also depends on your flexibility. Jazz is a good combination of faster dancing, and ballet. It's better if your not very flexable yet. Ballet takes time and patience, and is really slow. I took it for like 4 years and quit it. Jazz has a lot of the easier ballet stuff in it. But if you really want turns and leaps, there is a class (depending on the dance studio) called Turns and Jumps. I love jazz dancing and it goes well with hip-hop classes.

Keep in mind you can always take one and if you don't like it, swich to the other one next year. Or take both, and drop out of one if you really don't like it.

My only complaint about dancing is sometimes the shoes are hard to find in your size. well jazz does leaps and turns but ballet makes u a way stronger dancer i say ballet!!it helps with flexibilty and balance!!i do jazz but i like ballet way better!! No, 16 is still young. Pick which dance fits you best. and if you like both, then simply do both dances. def not too late (u can try 2 sign up for a teen class so ur with ppl ur age)
ballet would help w/ disipline and its the core of all dancing
jazz focuses on the leaps a little more
can u do both (cuz thats wat id do if i was u)
jazz is a little more upbeat that classical ballet
