Question:

Any good ideas for 8th grade dances?

Helping organize my sisters 8th grade dance. Please give me some ideas. Also no hollywood themes PLEASE!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Maybe a retro theme, like an 80's or a 90's party. (or go farther back and do something from the 60's like a Motown party or a Beatles party.) A retro theme gives people an excuse to dress like someone else, which often makes people more comfortable if they're nervous about dancing. (maybe you can tell from this that I was nervous about dancing when I was in the 7th grade!)

As a second idea, how about a "dress as your favorite TV character" theme? The DJ could download some theme songs from popular shows and again, people get to be someone else for the night!

I hope you have a great time. Make sure you don't do all the work--get some dancing in, too! no The 90's.
Jungle Fever.
Hippies. Naked; Everybody Dance Now!!! how about an island theme?? or a water one tiki themed I think you should have a dodgeball elimination dance we did black and white for our dance at school.... it was really cool. don't go, they're lame.

wait for prom, but sometimes those are lame too. Underwater? If it is for a specific season then you could get real creative with that too...? I'm a SLAVE for you. Good theme name costume, 80s, sock hop the chicken dance, the macarena, the Mexican hat dance, the twist...get the idea? My students wanted to do a halloween dance with a haunted house as the entrance to the dance. I thought it was a neat idea. Halloween party (wear costumes)
in the winter have like a snowball dance (girls in dresses guys in dress pants shirt and tie) WW II theme. The kids could be forced to dance, and they would resemble the Jews, and the teachers would rule over them as the Nazi Gestapo and SS.

Like my symbolism. I think that's what it is. Glow in the dark....i went to a glow in the dark themed dance is was so much fun i loved it, it looked so neat and you can sell glow sticks at the door Well an underwater theme would be good, or if its around halloween a halloween spooky one! Or maby something like a 70's or 80's dance! ya ya ya!!! glow sticks!!! that'd be SOOOO cooll!!! The 90's (poodle skirts, elvis wigs, etc)
Hawaii (hawaiin shirts, hula skirts, etc)
Spring (flowery pastel clothes) put flowers on walls
Halloween (fairy tale costumes!)
I am going to 8th grade next year and know i would love those themes! Sadie Hawkins dance maybe? When is the dance. If it is close to Halloween, then a costume theme. Close to Thanksgiving, they could all dress like turkeys.lol
A variety of music and low lights, decorations.
At work for Christmas party, the theme was A night in Paris, this year is Snowflakes or on that line.
Hope this helps. Luau themes are always fun and can be formal or informal.

You can't go wrong with Glow in the Dark - everything is dark except glowsticks and glowbeads etc...

Spring Fling

Black and Whie - All decorations black or white...kids come dressed in black and/o white

Hoedown Why not a Sock Hop. Base it on the 60's era (a learning experience too) and have them wear bobbie socks and poodle skirts and have the boys slick back their hair and wear their clothes "James Dean" style.

Or a Sadie Hawkins Dance where the girls ask the guys to the dance and they ask them to dance instead of it all being on the boys.

Both are fun and the kids will love them.

Best of Luck sock hop, twenties, 80's just last year i was in grade 8 and it its winter do some type of a winter secen and tell plll to wear white. and when there dancing do a sonwball. if you dont know what that is it : you start off with 6 people on the dance floor. as partners (so 3 dance pairs) then about 20 or 30 secconds into the song u pull out the mi and say SNNOW BALL and those 6 people go fine someone eles in the croowd to dance with so then you end up with 12 people on the dance floor and 6 pair. the next 20 or 30 seconds you reapet the sbnow ball untill every one is on the dance floor. u can do somthing really fancy like a ball we had that at my eight grade dance during our lunch time for ten minutes we had to go to practice for the waltez u can do that have all the kids dress up really fancy and elegant see a different side of them while in nice clothing. "Retro 70's Disco Nite"

If you have anybody who knows all of the disco dances, have a space set up or a classroom open for to teach the kids the moves. Take a couple of afterschool sessions to teach the kids moves like "The Lawnmower", "The Cabbage Patch", "The Bus Driver" and such. Try to teach them line dances like "The Electric Boogaloo" and "The Hustle", so the kids who are shy about asking a girl/guy to dance can dance without a partner and still have fun.
Most of the kids at my junior high dances never danced because they didn't know how and didn't want to make fools of themselves in front of everyone. By having an opening dance learning session right at the start of the dance it will break that ice and kids will have more fun.
Good luck. "Glitz and Glam"
"Masquerade Ball" {look it up if you don't know what that is}
"Casino Royale"
"20s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s" {you get the idea}
"Grease"
"All that Jazz" {like in the movie Chicago}
"Disney"
"Superheroes"
"Hawaiian theme"
"Under the Sea"

I recommend the first, second, third and fifth ones because they all accommodate tuxedos for guys and short, sparkly dresses for girls, with lots of jewelry.
