Question:

Flamenco dance movie, have you seen it?

My favorite dance movie of all time is finally coming out on DVD in NTSC format on October 16, 2007. It's a Spanish-language movie (R), part 1 of a trilogy by Carlos Saura. The characters in the story are in a flamenco dance company rehearsing for a production. As the movie progresses the relationship between the two main characters begins to emulate the tragic love story of the opera Carmen. If you love flamenco guitar (Paco De Luca) flamenco dancing (Antonio Gades & Laura Del Sol) and the music from Carmen (Bizet) you will love this movie.
If you have seen it, tell me what you thought.

If you have questions, just ask.
If you love dance, don't miss it.

Reviews: Never before has the art of flamenco dance been so pulsatingly sensual. Or a love so treacherously obsessive. In this explosive interpretation of the classic opera "Carmen", the lines between passionate illusion and real life become intricately entwined. Your senses will be aroused like never before. And never again will you see anything like it. They're dancing a fine line between fantasy and reality. Nominated for Oscar. Another 9 wins & 6 nominations~IMDb (Internet Movie Database)

UKquilter, It originally was only on VCR but came out on DVD in the PAL version about 4 years ago. I tried to buy it on the internet, but like you said only poor quality copies of the VCR were available on DVD. Finally the NTSC version is available, but I think you must buy the entire trilogy, Carmen isn't offered by itself.

If this a new release of the 80's film, it was fabulous at the time, both in the soundtrack and the dancing. I taped it when it came to UK tv and watched it three times in a week as I already loved the various versions of Carmen (including Carmen Jones). I bought a poor DVD of the Spanish film and was a bit disappointed after not seeing it for about 10 years as the 'modern' story part of it is a bit dated, but the rest is sublime!
