Question:

What's a good way to ask my parents for Irish dancing lessons?

I want to take Irish dance again, but my parents probably think this would be a bad idea since I quit last time I was taking, but this was because of the teacher. How do I ask them nicely and professionally to take lessons again?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hire a copy of Riverdance for a week from the video store and just before they come in the house from work have it on the TV. Do what you learnt from your previous lessons when they walk in and keep kicking your legs as if your going to knock something over. If they complain having the TV turned up so loud and your going to break something. Tell them , your passion on wanting to do this and you have secretly been practicing and would love to continue lessons. If they mention the past just smile and tell them, I'll keep practicing here then and turn up the TV and start dancing away again. I promise you will get your own way. They will come around to send you back to lessons believe me well just explain that to them that that instructor sucked and you want to try again, but (convince them that this instructor is differernt, that you know theyre good ) offer to pay half Just ask! Explain you didn't like the last teacher, but that you'd like to try again. say "can i take irish dancing lessons....mom..........dad?" "Mom, dad, I know I disappointed you last time I took Irish dance lessons. I didn't like the teacher. Instead of handling it in a mature manner, I quit. I would like a chance to try again and prove that I have the maturity to handle personalities different from my own. I was wrong and i want to make it right." just make sure you explain to them that the original teacher was unprofessional and your ready to take classes again with a different instructor. they should definantly understand say that if they don't let you, you will start singing jazz...Now thats a threat. Ask if you can do one or two lessons on a trial basis; go with a friend if you know someone taking them. Also offer to help pay for them, if you're in the position to. I helped "teach" the beginner's classes (I led them in exercises) in exchange for advanced classes when I took Irish dance. And practice, practice, practice what you've already learned to convince your parents that you're ready to commit this time. just ask them Just say i want to take dance again and tell them why you want to take it again. say that all of ur other friends have an hobby and u want one to but u will have to promise that u will not quit. or u could come up with the money and ask them to drive u there All you have to do is say that you didn't like your teacher last time. I am a dancer and I know what it is like to have a teacher you do not like. I have had plenty of them! So don't worry just explain you didn't like your teacher, so that is why you quit.
